power antenna

Ok, so the power antenna on my '91 GTA hasn't worked since I bought it... didn't work on my '87 either. I really couldn't care less about it working, as long as the radio works. The problem I have is that I just bought a car cover for it and it won't fully cover the car without bending the crap outta the antenna. As I said I never cared about it working, but is there any way I can get it to go down short of replacing the whole assembly? If I can get it down I can just use needle nose pliers to pull it up (how I got it up on my '87) when I need to. Any help appreciated, I'm not trying to poke a hole in the car cover, kinda defeats the purpose.

P.S. The motor runs, I have the wires unplugged from the relay behind the dash; discovered those wires when I did the heater core.

Re: power antenna

Try using some WD 40 to get ti to move then just pull it up with needle nose. It might work might not cause the antenna is on a motor.

Re: power antenna

Before I bought an aftermarket, I just cut the antenna of mine. I never used the radio anyway. What most guys do is get rid of the exterior antenna and buy another regular antenna and lay that one under the front of the dashpad (near the glass) and I heard it gets great reception. I almost did that, but I had already installed my electric one...

Re: power antenna

If the motor runs then you could probably get by with the cable repair kit Modern Day Muscle sells

Re: power antenna

I like your idea HCR13. It's rainy today but I think tomorrow I'll hit up the 'yard and go snag a standard antenna. It'd be nice to have the antenna shaved when I get it painted anyways, lose a little weight and look a whole lot better.

Re: power antenna

yeah, I've thought about shaving my antenna too, but now I don't have the funds for a bodyshop... As it is now, there is a small hole in the fender (original antenna hole) where the electric antenna pops out of... think of a prairie dog..) Good luck, I hope it works out
