aftermarket speakers with UQ7 system...works??

Just wondering if anyone with th Firebird UQ7 performance Sound system has used aftermarket speakers with that system and original amp? Does it work?

I was told recently those original speakers are 10 ohms and you will fry the amp with aftermarket speakers......

Re: aftermarket speakers with UQ7 system...works??

Aftermarket speakers are usually 4ohms. My stock speakers in my Z28 (UQ1) and Z71 truck were 4ohms. I can't see the performance system being 10 ohms. 10 ohms would be your elcheapo Lloyds/Yorx/Koss/RCA etc ghettoblasters and crappy house stereos. If by some chance your system is 10 ohms then yes you could cook the amp by installing 4ohm speakers. The lower the ohms the less resistance the product has. 0ohms would be basically be a strait short. If you put a steel bar across your battery terminals (don't) that would be 0 ohms. Some of the hi-performance aftermarket Amplifiers are stable to 1 ohm when bridged.
