will it fit???
hey all im just wondering and i did use the search feature first, will a double din deck fit into a 87 trans am, i realize it will need some modding but has it been done? or will it just not fit?
Re: will it fit???
I've read that people have done it, but have never actually seen any pics of one installed yet.
Once I get my car to the point where I can do the audio system, I plan on attempting to install a double din Nav unit in mine.
I did some measurments and it looks like it might be possible, but you'll have to modify the radio bezel and trim the bottom and top of the opening. You might even have to trim some of the heater control bracket too.
You'll also need to remove the factory radio bracket that gives you more space in the back.

I did one in a 90 T/A once. It was a while ago and it was an older pioneer double din (Read; huge dinosaur!) It wasnt easy. The worst part was the trim plate. My advice would be to use an old scratched one and when everything is said and done, paint it gloss black and then use at least 2 coats of clear!!!

Anything is possible with enough cutting and taping back together...
