Keep blowing my speakers... suggestions?

Ok, I have a Pioneer DEH-P8600MP which pumps out 22w RMS per channel. It also has wayyyyy too many audio tweaking settings, but I think I have it pretty well set.

Speakers are all 6.5" (doors and adaptors in the sails).

Now. I have the radio set to keep any sound below 100Hz from both the front and rear speakers. This cuts out some mids, but keeps my speakers in check... so I thought.

Well I think I blew another speaker today. First I roasted the tweeters on the fronts and now I blew a woofer in the rear.

It's not like I'm pushing any crazy power through these!

What are some good speakers that WON'T be so apt to blowing? Please make your recommendations applicable to 6.5" speakers as that's all I can run!

Your blowing speakers with a Headunit only.... Stop buying cheap speakers and turning it up really loud. problem solved.
Want really loud? go get decent speakers with good rms ratings and hook em to an amp and they will be loud and won't die on you.

Re: Keep blowing my speakers... suggestions?

the problem you seem to be having is because the speakers are being underpowered. i know that all these head unit makers say that its 52x4 rms, or whatev....but in all reality, you're MAYBE pushing 11-12w per channel. you might surge at 14.

what hellsatan said is true. if you truly want to get them loud, buy a decent 4 channel. i actually have one for sale if you're interested. just pm me.

then, you can get cheap speakers, or good speakers and be totally fine! =D

No, this was a $600 headunit, it came with a birth certificate when they tested it and it put out 22w RMS each channel.

I was running all Eclipse speakers... not exactly cheap.

even so, eclipse is a high end speaker, and they need more than 22w even pushing them. i have an eclipse amp that pushes 85x4. it would couple nicely if you're interested

Ohhh.... I get you. Thought you meant I was OVER powering them!

Just a note . . . an underpowered overdriven amp rated at a lower wattage than the speakers will tend to blow more speakers and cause more damage due too highly distorted clipping peaks than a clean running amp rated at a higher wattage than the speakers.

That means, in a somewhat ironic sort of way, you may find you'll blow fewer speakers by adding an amp with a substantially higher watt rating. Your speakers will appreciate the cleaner higher power.

well put my friend. definitely would be better to have to turn your amp down, than have it all the way up, and still not be enough power.

and another note....for true audiophiles, the more voltage that your pre-outs are sending, the cleaner the signal. 16v is a completely balanced signal. i have only seen one company that makes heads that will push that, and one amp that will accept. (eclipse on the head...8v out of the head, into a converter box, which boosts it to 16v, and xtant is one of the only amps i have seen that will allow that much voltage in it.)

a completely balanced signal is basically like having a high end microphone cable...clean, clear, and crisp.
