what do you think
hey i have a 92 v8 5.0L camaro and love it this is my second one i got T boned in my old one from a drunk driver and needless to say the sound system wasnt salvigable so i was thinking about going with pioneer this time
the speakers i was going to go with are 6x9 460 watt 5 way pioneers for $85-$170 in the rear. and for the front which is a 6 1/2 i was going to also go with the pioneer 280 watt 4 way speakers for $54
so what u think mind u this is without my two 12" subs and my cross over amp

What do you mean 4 way and 5 way? Tweeter, speaker, Sub, ?, ? There is 2 more?
If you liked the bass in your old system trust me you are gonna miss the subs. I took my subs to make a new box and for those few weeks driving just wasn't the same. Turning it up loud when you here a awesome song it just stinks.

Re: what do you think
hey sorry about not being to spesific the best buys web site was having difficulties and wasnt letting me get more info. The 6x9's are http://www.dealercostcaraudio.com/ts-a6992r.aspx and by 5-way i heard means that there are pretty much 5 speakers built into the one like tweeters and what not and about the 6 1/2s fitting in the front im pretty sure thats what i already have in. what size is yours? (on top of the front leather dash that comes out in 1 piece) and i also still have my 2 12" type S's and the custom fitting camaro box im just not sure if the accident did a number on them as well. but the main question is how good do you think the speakers are going to sound is any one formilure with them i havnt got the chance to listen to them are they pretty clear at a high volume or is there another route i should go like the sony explodes? well thanks hope to hear back soon.

Re: what do you think
the ones in the dash are 4x6's. i would recommend infiniti kappa's, kicker KS, or eclipse point source. very clear speakers, and if you add an amp later, they will sound great. as for a 5 way 6x9.....why? even in live and studio sound, the most you will ever find is 3...MAYBE 4 way. i dont understand why they have 3 tweets where one does 4k-6k, another 6k-10k, and another one doing 10k +. its just not necessary.
for a camaro, those rears are right next to your ears. i would recommend making a plate and doing a 6 1/2 component system. you'll have great midbass, and most crossovers have a -6db and +6db cut or boost on them for the tweets, so that will aid if you have too much high end hitting your ears.
as far as good comp sets, pioneers are alright, if you step up to the rev series, but i would try and match all around the car. kicker's stuff sounds incredible when you get into the ks series and up, but you will need an amp before too long. they are very very warm and clear. and i actually have a 4-channel eclipse amp for sale if you are interested...just pm me
hope this helps bro.

Re: what do you think
so are you saying that the pioneer 5 way speakers would be to much or that it wouldn't sound as clear? and do you by any chance have a link or url to some of the 4x6's you were talking about so i could take a look if not ill try and search for them as well. Also for the rear that is right by your head where you talking about making a cut out to fit in 6 1/2s?? i got a little confused with that part.
I also use to have infiniti 6x9s not to sure on exactly what because they came with my car and im pretty sure there where either eclipse or also infinitis for the 4x6's. But i was pretty pleased with the performance of infiniti but was maybe looking for a step up (which shouldnt be hard because they where probibly bought in umm..2002-2003) but you where sudjesting infiniti kappa's, kicker KS, or eclipse point source and im planning on trying to reinstall my subs once i get these speakers figured out i just wanna make sure im going to be happy with it being clear and crankible the bass i can take care of with my subs if they still work
for all the input so far guys keep it coming

for all the input so far guys keep it comingI wouldn't bother doing the 6 1/2. Sure it might sound great to the perfect ears of some people but if you don't know how to do the work or just don't want to do the work why bother...
Poineer hasnt ever really brought out any high end speakers in awhile that I have seen that pack a punch. They are more to the budget buyers. Low price good sound but nothing extreme. By the sounds of it you are looking to crank it every once and awhile so you might wanna stick with the infinity or Eclispe. (Lots of people on these forums seem to like eclispe once again I don't know anything about them but I have heard good things)
I got alpine type R in my rears and they have same RMS rating as infinity so I would assume they sound similar I just went for alpine because my deck and front is also alpine

for all the input so far guys keep it comingalso, what hellsatan said is a great point. switching to a comp set in the back would require a little work. basically, you would get a 1/2" sheet of mdf or something similar, make a template of the 6x9 hole, then on that mdf, cut out the holes for the 6 and tweet. it makes it easier to aim your tweet as well. if you just wanna stick with the 6x9s, the infinity's do sound great, my personal pref is the point sources, or the kickers. mainly cause i've dealt with that more. the shop i used to manage sold both the kickers and infinity's. and both are worth they're money.
eclipse's website is www.eclipse-web.com search the sp6900 i believe, and the se4600. they dont have the 4x6's in point source for some reason. shame
and of course kicker, is www.kicker.com they have higher series than the KS, but ive never heard them. but i will vouch for the KS and DS serier as both sounding great. they are a lot warmer than an infinity or similar speaker. the highs are smooth, the mids are clear. pretty much the same story on the eclipse.

Re: what do you think
hey guys sorry i dont mean to keep bugging on the same subject but i found acouple kickers and wanted to see if you have gotten the chance to hear them and which ones you would recomend.
and about the mdf sheet i could do that real easy it looks like some one has already done it befor in this car, but would it really improve the sound by using a smaller rounded speaker?

Re: what do you think
Kicker speakers arent that good. The tweeters are too harsh and hardly put out any bass. Infinitys are good if you want loud and are running amps because they are 2ohm, but infinitys just as well don't put out much bass JBL and INFINITY are made by the same people so you will find the same issues. If you are going without an amp look into alpine type s or polk db. The polk dbs will be louder because they are the most efficient. The type r's sound smoother. 5way speakers arent neccesary, but if you want loud and reliable go with a round cone, ovals flex akwardly and are weaker. the 5way speakers will sound unnatural and will just sound real bad. There are other brands out there which are better for the money than pioneer such as mb quart & CDT. You only really need a nice set of front speakers amped, and the rears can be run off the headunit. If you are on a budget and want good sounding components. For $80 you can get phoenix gold. Those have alot of bass response and can be run w/ or w/o an amp. Shop around more, you will find alot more speakers than what you see in best buy. Don't buy from them their prices are outrageous.
