More speakers, rather then the stock 4
Hey guys I have a 1992 Camaro RS and the 4 stock speakers just are not enough interior sound for me. I am already working on the sub set up in the well but I was wondering if any of you have fit more interior speakers somewhere in the car. Like in the pilars or kick panels or something. Pictures will help if you have them if not where should I look to add speakers?

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
i have a 3.5 or 4.5 and a tweeter in each side of the dash so thats more than stock, but with 9X6's in the sail panels, with a nice amp, and its LOUD, i cant sit in the car with it up 3/4 of the way, IMO more speakers than stock really aren't necessary for all out loudness.

Depends somewhat on what you want...
I'm sure your system is loud, but most of the loudness is coming from 1 foot behind your head, where the bigger louder speaker is much closer to your head than the smaller weaker speaker by the dash...
Since I wanted my image coming more from the front, I went with a 3 way MB Quart system, 6.5" woofer, 4" mid and Tweet... I haven't started the install, not sure if I'm gonna put the 6.5 in the door or kick, the 4 is going in the dash with the tweet... I did also get a 6.5 inch set for the rear, but it will be faded down when I want quality, or no fader when tops are off and I just want volume...
Side note, MB Quart's last made in Germany line of speakers PVF... latest PVI models are made in China
MB Quart lost their name and is making their new own company com Jan 09, Maestro.

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
Well I am always going quality over loudness, but just like what was seaid in my car up all I hear is the two speakers directly behind my head. I want to get more of a surround sound going. I have heard of people building kick pannels but is it possible to cut out a place in the door panel and put one there? I have also been told that the pannels in the back where the 6x9's are that you can put more then that one speaker. True or false? lol In my camaro I have a loud flowmaster exhaust and you hear a lot of road noise as you all know. Now I love to hear my exhaust but sometimes I perfer to hear the music and I want it to sound good. Im going to pull some of the interior today so any input helps. Thanks!

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
I have electric window motors, not sure but I think the manual ones may have more room... may have to trim, also some speakers are shallow, MB Quart has a shallow mount series RUA...
When going higher end, most people / companies drop the oval 6x9 and go with a round speaker (6.5 is plenty for the rear)...
Depending on what year your car is, you might be able to massage a 5.25 into the dash (I hear the 91's and up had the least amount of room)... but taking a heat gun and contouring the AC ducts helps
I have a flow master, 30 series, low rumble, not as loud as the 40, but I went all out with the sound deadening...

Its a 1992 so I have been told there is little to no room in the dash, but it does how manual windows so like you said a shallow speaker may fit. I'll look. Is that DynoMat in your car there? Gutted the whole interior and just put it where ever you could? I have the 40 series muffler on my car so it gets loud lol.

ahh look at the nice sound deadening job.im getting a few rolls to do my hole floor and roof.great for insulating the car and quiet things right up.
anyways you cant go wrong with a quick pair of kick panels, cheap to make yourself and put whatever 5.5 or 6.5 speaker you want and build it at what space ur willing to give up.
i built mine in less then 2 hrs start to finish and they still look good and sound good.ill take pics tmr and post it.

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
I have 10 not including the subs and I have a 92 RS hardtop and I was able to get 5.25 in the dash with 4 tweeters and in the rear I used 6.5 with 3" super tweeters. It is really loud and a clean sound to boot but im also using a 1800 watt amp to power the interior speakers and a 1200 to power the two 10's and it is a real attention grabber because it produces so much sound but no speakers are to be seen.

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
How did you get bigger speakers in the dash? I heard you had to modify the aid ducts, did you have to do that? Also are those just great speakers you have with super tweeters built into the speaker or is it two different componets? Do you by chance have kick pannels in the front of your car? I'm entertaining the idea of making some I just wanted to see how someone did it so I have a idea what I am doing.

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
for the 5.25 in the dash I made custom plates and as for the super tweeters I made a set of plates to hold 6.5 and the super tweets out of 1/8 abs plastic. I have a manual car and I am a little afraid of hitting kicker pods if I were to put speakers in that area I would put them in the door. Maybe next spring I will build door pods and build a set up in the back for sound balance and most likely add another 10 speakers and add another amp since I have dual batterys and a 220amp alt.

Sub in well.
6x9's in sail panels.
3 1/2" Infinity Reference inside factory BOSE kickpanel enclosures.
5x7's in factory 4x6 locations in dash.
1" tweets on A-Pillars.

Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
There we go thats what I am looking for, I am going to remove my dash pad tonight after class to replace the 4x6 spekers. I havent bought replacements because I want the biggest I can fit there. I have a 1992 RS am I going to run into vent or air duct issues? The 1" tweeters in the A-Pillars is a good idea too thanks. What kind of sub setup do you have in the well? A single sub or more?

I installed my four tweeters in the dash inside the defrost vent and it doesn't effect defrost. As for subs I have two 10's in the well but thats because I like balance and clarity.

One sub. Battery is relocated to the well.
Also, the 5x7's are in there because I have removed ALL HVAC ducting everywhere. I don't have A/C or heat in the car. I had to cut up an old dash pad and the 5x7's kind of sit on top. No pictures as it isn't finished, motor comes first.

Could we see pictures of your set up? I too have been thinking how I want to mount my tweeters/more speakers.
Re: More speakers, rather then the stock 4
You would be best off either building your own, or paying someone to build some custom kickpods for you. You'll get the best imaging and sound going this route.
You could then also if you wanted to go a step further and put a midbass driver in your doors.
Then just remove the rear 6x9's all together because they are just too close to your head, and brings everything behind you.
Then in the well, put a couple subs for your low end.

True I totally agree, do you by chance have kick pannels in your car. I have been thinking about building a pair for mine I was just trying to find some pictures so I can get a basic idea of what I am looking into doing. If you have a set you think you could snap a few pictures and share?

I think I still have them in out in the garage somewhere, I think they held a 6.5 and tweet.
They sounded great, but I just didn't care for how the shop made them, the speakers just stood out too much. They got lazy when they made them

When I finally get my car on the road, I'm going to make the next set myself and do it the way I want.
