What set up??
Hello, I am new to the audio scene. I own a '91 Camaro RS and need a steario as I currently don't have one. The problem is a see a lot of people with that big thumping bass and I hate it. I love to listen to my music really load and mostly listen to 1950's Rock n' Roll and Rockabilly, and some Country. I just want a nice crisp sound that I can enjoy some light music played load. Any ideas?????

i would suggest getting a decent radio first which has features that will fit you. I personally like alpine radios the best. My personal deck that i have in my 91 firebird is from alpine and has build in satellite radio, ipod control, and bluetooth. I love the deck and it even made the stock speakers sound better. Dont stop there tho. If you want to hear all the music has to offer get some good speakers. ONE THING I HAVE TO SAY IS....YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR IN THE CAR AUDIO WORLD!...i cant stress this enough. Dont get me wrong there are GREAT bargins out there tho. Ill recommend you an amazing site to get all your car audio stuff from. They have AMAZING customer support and have competitive prices.

Re: What set up??
you wont get "big bass beat" of any sort without subs. I mean the mids might have some bass to them but nothing is like having subs. If your mids are to thumpy for you then just turn the bass down or off on your head unit. Thats all it will take to get rid of it.
i listin to rap, rock, oldies, and talk comedy...honestly i have a full sound system in my 91 and i love it. The subs can be turned down by the remote bass **** i have custom mounted in the ash tray area. To the point tho. Even with the rock and oldies songs i like to hear that thump with the music. I mean i dont have it up like i would with rap or hip hop but i like the thump. I like to get every lil note out of my music and hear it well. I lean more towards quality music not just loud.

Re: What set up??
Mitchell,
What's your budget and what do you want your system to do?
...Do you just want to replace the factory deck and speakers?
...Are you looking for a high end system to give you the best sound you can buy?
...Do you want a sub in the trunk area or maybe in the sail panels inplace of the factory 6x9's?
...What features do you want from your deck....ipod, usb adaptors, bluetooth, remote?
The clearer you are on what you DO want and your budget then people can help. You can spend $700 or $7,000......
The articles are a good start. Check out www.woofersetc.com for ideas and prices.

Re: What set up??
Heres what i would do....Get a new head unit and get a good one that fits all your needs. Then get back and front speakers for your car. Start with that. Its what i would consider an entry level stereo but dont worry you can get all that and always upgrade or add on later. If above stated doesnt satisfy your needs i would get a set of subs and an amp or two. This is where it gets really touchy subject cause of all the options of subs and amps and what to do with your box and if your amps will pull to much power and rob horsepower from your car. You might have to add a better battery, capacitor or powercell, high output alternator. I mean really the car audio can go so far that you will spend more on the audio then you did on your car.
I personally have a real nice head unit. front and back speakers which are high rms rated and have a four channel amp going to them. Two 12's in a custom sealed box in the well with custom amp rack with neons and polished diamound plate. A power cell and red top optima battery to help with the power problems. I mean ive prolly got $1500+ easy in my system. It meets all the requirements i ever have and i love the sound. I can even take my t-tops off and enjoy the music loud and clear while im on the highway. But dont be scared from this. You dont need to go all out like this.
Just start off small and go up if need be. I didnt want to really get into it cause im sure you dont want to have to make custom panels and everything but you can make custom kick panels with component speakers and mod your dash to fit bigger speakers. It is seriously crazy how much customization you can do to get more accurate sound. I personally think you should be happy enough with a nice head unit and better front and back speakers.

Thanks for all the help. I will sure as hell take all that into heart when doing my audio. I don't want to go to crazy or over the top just something a little more than factory. I have another '91 Camaro RS with stock sterio in it. I kind of hope my sterio in my '91 Camaro I am building now will be a little more kickin. I was just out the other day and had AC/DC blaring in my other Camaro as I was screaming donw the road. I had the volume turned up to the max and It was a little to fuzzy for me and I def wanted some more. Thanks for all of your time and effort.
