5x7's?
I was looking at a set of these
http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/prod...&lang=en&tab=F
For my in dash setup and was wondering if it was possible to adapt them to the 4x6 mounts.
Alpine makes a set of 4x6's but at 45 watts RMS, they're a little weak.

Re: 5x7's?
i doubt they will fit because its kind of a small hole for the 4x6 and its only goes down just so far...

Re: 5x7's?
I had the dashpad removed the other night while I was cleaning out the air ducts and vents and remember thinking to myself that those were some puny looking speakers as it was the first time I had ever seen them. I also think I saw enough room for improvement.
I was thinking tonight of buying some 16 or 18 gauge sheet metal and using a dril and dremel to create a custom 5x7 mounting plate.
Just a thought though...

Re: 5x7's?
the speakers will sit too low is the problem, unless you raised then plush to the dash par and cut a hole for them.
I got a pair of polk 4X6's and had a hellua time even getting the correst size in, i had to space the driver side with some brass rings i had laying around because when i screwed them in it pushed onto my gauge cluster
----------
theyd sit too low is the issue, unless you make them flush with the dash pad and cut holes in it large enough
i had a helluva time getting a pair of polk 4X6s in because the factory speakers were so small, the mounting clearances were better
I had to use brass rings to space my driver side because if i didnt it would push on my gauge cluster making it all funky

Re: 5x7's?
Oval shaped speakers sacrifice sound quality for surface area. Ovals flex at the ends because of the inherent weakness of he shape. Most people don't care...but the audiophile in me can't help but point it out.

Re: 5x7's?
I'm inclined to think that the probably negligible difference in sound quality would be covered up by road noise, engine noise, and parts of the car that vibrate and rattle. Not to mention a "sound stage" is practically non existent inside a car.
We're talking a go fast car, not a limo. I'm inclined to think even my B&W's would sound no different than any other sony or alpine speaker in my car.

And now the audiophile in me is not going to settle for anything less than round speakers.

4x6 plates man. thats the way to go. or do a 3 way component set, and make a pod in your door for the 6.5, then throw the 4 and tweet up in the dash.
thats what im doin.

Re: 5x7's?
4x6's are weak. Not the route I was planning.
I remember a post on here where some guy managed 6.5's in his dash. Then I would put some tweeters in the doors.
