does any one have 15 in. subs in a well sub box?

I have an opportunity to buy 2 Fosgate P1's and an Eclipse amp and a box that will not work for our cars but the price is going to be $325 I want a LOUD system in my car and i know the fosgates are great! (they were my Dads)

Re: 15's?

Loud is about all 15's are good for, they distort sound too much and end up sounding like a dog pile.

Re: 15's?

12's are a extremely tight fit for a well sub box, I can't see 15's fitting in that area, depth or width wise.

Honestly you can get it "loud" with a pair of 10's in the correct enclosure on a strong amp.

or just go old school with four twelves, just prepare for your rear end to sag and the stereo to get stolen.

this was done by my brother all is made out of fiberglass. two 15's

here are more pics. http://s159.photobucket.com/albums/t137/irock312/

it sounded fxxxx loud. Maybe the person above didn't know how to adjust their sounds!!!! 15 sound good if the box is right and the highs are too.

Re: 15's?

A 15" speaker has a LOT of mass that you have to move. Sound quality suffers unless you have a REALLY EXPENSIVE 15" sub...probably custom made...and a ton of clean power.

Re: 15's?

well the deal fell through. I am now probably going with 2 Infinity Kappas with an Infinity amp and either an Eclipse or Alpine Headunit. I know i am going to spend more on the stereo than i did on the car but i dont realy care!

Re: 15's?

maybe that's what happened. Because my brother put 2 15 inch kickers, with 2 6x9 pioneers. He used monster cable zero gauge for the power and ground. He spent about 1200 on material alone.

Pricey! I spent half of that on my stereo :P
Now it better be seeing a big block while you're at it.

Re: 15's?

You can fit 15's...two of them to be exact, in a standard well box. The catch is...the subs have to be "Shallow Mount" models...which are extremely hard to find anymore, especially in 15" sizes, and the box will have to come out up and over the gas tank hump by about 6 inches to make enough space. I had a box for 15's that I sold, because they weren't worth it. I've gone back to 2 12's, and won't go with anything else. Having to use Shallow Mount 15's takes away any benefit of going from 12" to 15".

Here's an example of a shallow mount sub.

Re: 15's?

I still don't unerstand unless you're doing SPL contests. 12's are way overkill for the car.I mean it easily reaches pain threshold (120db).

Re: 15's?

well I'm new to this forum/ site. I have a 15" L7 solobaric. These are by no means shallow at all but it fits just flush right before the hatch touches. And mybox doesn't go over the gas hump. Needless to say it is ridiculously loud. My sounds areclean no distortion at all. The fact that I have 10 speakers + 2 subs doesn't hurt either. Also have a separate yellow top battery a/isolator 4farad cap. 2 amps. 2. Cooling fans. And it all fits too.

Re: 15's?

15's are too muddy and slow to sound good, plus they are a tough fit in a hatch like a thirdgen. 12's sound much better and a trio of 10's are tight, yet pound.

Re: 15's?

ive never seen 15s in a car that sound tight! they always tend to drown out everything, and the bass rolls over,
12s in a good box ,10s if on the budget.
and a sealed box if you want it tight.

Re: 15's?

2 dual voice coil 15s these were Fosgates power prototypes with power 800 2 channel amp running them, the best setup I ever had in my old 83. even won 2 first and a couple 2nd place at contest back in the day. also has 800 watt 4 ch. with surround sound processor running 10-12 mids and tweets. sounded great, I have slightly scaled back the last few years but still love dire straits on some 15s.
Also had a set of punch they could have been a little boomy but still rocked.15's?-dcp03145.jpg

Re: 15's?

I noticed a member is selling a dual 15 box pretty cheap if anyone is interested. Looks pretty good.
