amp placement

I am about to get into the stereo part of my 88 maro. I have seen ppl out the amps in alot of places. But never where i was thinking about. I was thinking about putting it in the storage compartment on the drivers side where the locking lid is. IDK if there is going to be enough ventilation in that location there is a small vent in the area.

Re: amp placement

I had a small amp sitting in the cardboard storage box. The problem with that box is its small and will only hold a tiny amp. Another option would be to remove the cardboard box then you could fit a much bigger amp in that area.

Re: amp placement

I never had a problem. But again you can only fit a very small (weak) amp in there. You can always add a small fan if you feel its necessary.

Re: amp placement

Lotsa room under the drivers seat if the carpet
underneath is cut out(mine had the build sheet under
there BTW)and a mounting plate made. If the liner is
taken out of the LH lockbox, there is a lot of room for
amps there,i have two big "old skool"amps in mine,
put in a fan because i had several handy, but not sure
if needed.

Re: amp placement

imo, the best place is in the backseat! right behind the drivers seat!

very confined and no fan, never had a problem with it

and it adds another reason why people should not sit behind me, but they still can, its not noticeable, at all

its also easy to hide the wires but you gotta cut up your seat....

Re: amp placement

The worst place is behind the back seat.It gets very hot.Under the passanger seat is good, depends on the size,I usually take out the spare tire and put it their fits good and doesnt get hot.

I had a 2ch 800w amp in there and it never had any problems with heat. Just the cardboard in mine was old and brittle so i just tore it out. plenty of space and i made a brace to hold it up with some scrap sheet metal.

Re: amp placement

Doest have to deal with the amp but just for reference a power cell(or deep cycle battery) will fit in that lock box perfectly! Just click the link in my sig that says album...i have a few pictures of my system. I went for an amp rack with somewhat hidden wires. I liked the idea and it looks nice(always get compliments at car shows).

Personally i would not put them in the seat. Not if its a decent size amp at all. Under the driver or passenger seats(only if there not power ones) will work. In the spare tire spot will also work. I saw a post with a nice amp rack using some existing holes in the spare tire spot that worked and it came out very nice.

some people but a piece of mdf under the carpet on the hump, then screw the amp onto that, that way the risk of puncturing the gastank is gone... well unless u use 2inch screws lol
