Stereo reciever Qs

So I use Crutchfield a lot and i decided to go with them with a new system for my 87 IROC and they say that some will stick out a half inch, is that ok really? cause they have some nice receivers and its says some stick out that far and that you have to cut the original mount to stick it in there further. is that true? or is there another way? or do i just have to deal with it sticking out a half inch if i get that receiver? Also What are your opinions on the best speaker, subs and amp setup for about or under $500?

Re: Stereo reciever Qs

Most aftermarket stereos are a bit longer than the stock radio and need an adapter/face plate to look right in the car. Not a big deal and it will look fine after install. Pioneer used to make a special 1.5 din CD unit that was a near direct fit but I don't think they still make it and it would be pretty obsolete these days anyway. Crutchfield is a bit pricey, but they know their stuff and you'll be satisfied with what you get.

Re: Stereo reciever Qs

most of the install kits that made for these cars protrude a bit to begin with, so you shouldn't have an issue with most radios fitting. while the flush install kits look a lot better, you may have to do some modifications behind the scenes to get everything to fit right. On my last install, I had to remove the metal brace in the back and trim the vents a bit. Nothing that was all that intensive and nothing that affected functionality of the car.
