Hey guys I'm thinking of building a single sub box for the lower trunk well in the back of my 88 camaro. Something cheap. So instead of dropping alot of money on a new amplifier I was wondering if I could bridge this 2 channel amp.

Plus what does anyone think about a 10 inch MTX 4500?

usually the amp has to be capable of being bridged. I think its something designed into the circuitry or something like that. i could be wrong but thats as far as i know.

 

That amp does not appear to be bridgeable from the info on the label.

oh, and there's a pretty decent following for those Linear Power amps; if it doesn't fit your needs, I'm sure you can find someone who would pay a pretty penny for that little guy you've got.

 

Ah, well I guess I could use them on the 6x9s in the back but those are loud enough for the lucky people that get to set in the back there. What if I wanted to use 2 smaller subs in one box. Say 8 inch ones at the 100RMS rating. I was thinking of using just one of the 100 channels on a 10 inch sub but i think that would present a problem when it cam to left and right base and not be enough power.

 

Two subs off that amp wouldn't be a bad idea but you may need to search out some efficient subs; most of today's subs are made to run hundreds of watts without a hiccup and need higher power to really push air. That amp right there would really be nicely served on a set of components up front, but sometimes you just have to work with what you've got.

 

If it doesn't say "bridgeable", Don't bridge it. I fried my 400w amp like that.

 

Down at the bottom of the label it states that it is a stereo amp. that means it has two different amp rails internally and cannot be bridged. if it said mono 2 channel, then you could bridge the channels together. A second look at the label states that the frequencies that it delivers; This is a full-range amp and doesn't filter out high frequencies. if you hook your subs to this amp without some kind of filter, you will kill your subs, they are not designed to play higher frequencies. Find a good mono amp for your subs and only use this amp in your system if your deck has adjustable frequency outputs.
