Some of the back lights in my radio, (stock delco cassette with e/q) have burned out. How exactly do you replace these? What kind of bulbs are they and how do you change them?

 

any ideas?

 

It would just be easier to get a new one bud.. They can't be too hard to find.

 

If they're anything like the ones in my 2002 Delco deck, they're soldered to the circuit board behind the faceplate. Not hard to take apart, but the challenge would be to undo the lights from the PCB. I took mine apart and painted the back of the buttons to change the color of the illumination. Can't help you on what type of bulb they are though.



The lights are the small black spots on the circuit board.

 

I already have about 5 of the declo cassette radios but all of them have lights burned out in them. I'm just not sure how hard it would be to take apart to get to the lights.

 

Mine was pretty easy to figure out take apart. Just go slow and easy. I had to remove the top cover too, so I could unplug the ribbon cables from the main circuit board inside.

 

on a ll 1980's radio stock radio they are a push and plug in you pull out the bulb and get a new they are very small replacement is 194LL clear the bulb themsleves are not solider in

 

Maybe on yours... For the rest of us, they are 87 ( or 37, can never remember the number, similar to 194 bulbs, but like half the size and brightness) bulbs that are in holders that are soldered to the circuit board for the buttons and the LED display. They CAN be changed, but they are VERY difficult to remove without breaking them, and once they're broke, forget getting them out of the holder. It would probably be easier to replace them with high-intensity LED bulbs.

 

the bulb number is bp37 for all 1980's radio you can get it at bennett auto or napa auto for about 2.00 for tow in change

 

I replaced the bulbs in mine about a month ago. And no kabal, not all factory radios from the 80's use that exact bulb and they're not a "push and plug" affair. You're probably gonna have to solder new bulbs into the circuit board. It wasn't overly difficult to do. Just take your time.

It's funny the part numbers people quote... BP stands for blister pack. Larger parts stores will usually stock both the blister pack on the shelf, and the bulk boxes behind the counters. Usually you can get a box of 10 or 12 for about the price of two blister packs of 2ea. LL stands for Long Life which is a Syvania line... The same number without the LL buys a standard (cheaper) replacement.

If it were me, I'll pull apart your radio, and see if the bulbs in question are removable. If they are, take one with you to the parts store and get enough to replace them all. I doubt you're going to want to go back in there again anytime soon.

 

mine was all push and plug no solder involved and yes i did take a bulb with me and match them up

 

i have two factory orginal radio and both of them were push and pull

 

getting off the subject what would cause your fan relay to burn out even after you replace both fan relay and both new relay burn out again yes i did check the fuse under the dash it is fine is the ac relay connected to the fan relay like a circle or a loop if you want to call it that do i need to replace the ac relay too not the one one the fire wall the other near the heater blower
