Today I picked up a pair of subs Kenwood KFC-W3514DVC
Peak 1500W.... Rated 380W.... Imp 4 ohms + 4 ohms
My head unit is a Panasonic CQ-DFX983U
My question is what would be a good amp to use with this ??

just go with a hifonics brutus, ull be able to run it at one ohm, and they are only 180 i think

 

Just stick with Kenwood, You'll have power to spare and it will match up nice. You can find it other places but I work at best buy so I know what products we carry.

If you don't think he should get that at least give a reason or find something you deem better, the subs he is looking at are only 380W RMS a piece and the amp is rated at 500W RMS at 4 ohms. Plus since they are both kenwoods the ratings are based off the same scale and they match up almost perfectly. I don't see what the problem is but feel free to correct me where I'm wrong.

 

900w max doesnt mean anything. he needs an amp of at least 800w "RMS" at 2 ohms.If hes gonna wire both 4 ohm coils on the sub (I'd do it) the ohm load on the amp will be 2 ohms.

Max power only applies when u have a sudden need of power,like during a really deep bass note for example.Is the max output its capable of reaching in a sudden need of power.


So I agree with ellocojorge....dont get that....u are gonna underpower those subs.

 

Its a typo on the website, It is an 1800W max Amp, or at least the one I meant to post is with 900RMS at 2 Ohms.

 

even then, since he is going to be using two of them they are going to be wired at either 1ohm or 4 ohm, so that amp isnt going to give him optimal power... hence me recommending hifonics, because there brutus( one of them) is rated 1000 rms at 1 ohm, which is the resistance he will be using( if there is fear of overpowering them he can turn down the gain on the amp)... btw that kenwood is overpriced, they dont cost more then 150 =P Biotch jkjkjkjk

 

Also you have to think, they are kenwood subs that aren't going to handle that, all he needs to do is wire them down to 2 ohms and bridge the amp

 

common opinion is says that its better to overpower then underpower, and again the gain can be adjusted so the amp doesnt reach full potential, btw the amp is is rated at 14.1 so he is going to be less than stated power, and he will also save over 100 dollars by not buying the kenwood

 

Either way he goes I wouldn't recommend going to a 1 ohm load

True...the lower the load the higher the output...and yes if he wires both coils on the sub and each sub will be giving the amp a 2 ohm load the ohm load on the amp would be 1.
So for those subs to reach their full potential they would have to run at 1 ohm

I'd recommend the brutus too

Zapcos, Cadences, Sundowns come to mind too

 

A one ohm load will cause damage to the subs if they aren't tuned properly and as far as the hifonics amps go I have never used them so I can't tell how good they are from personal experience but I know they aren't CEA compliant so they haven't been tested to make sure they are actually putting out those RMS numbers

 

no it wont cause damage... all the hifonics amps ive tried out seem to be putting out what they state... sundown would also be a good one, i think there 1000rms amps are in the 200 range pretty good imo... oh and just take a peak at the hifonics internals, then the kenwoods, u will see a big diffrence

 

I see the hifonics being used a lot in SPL competitions.I dont think they'd use em if they didnt put out what they state, otherwise they'd be using pyle and pyramid =]

Ask anyone about eclipse and tell me wut they tell u =]

it has 8 volts preouts meaning you can turn the gains down on the amp so they dont work as hard =]

when I had that radio in my car the bass was super strong with the gains all they way down and zero boost.

Yeah I've noticed that too about the OP but I'm just biased toward that amp because I get a pretty sweet discount haha

 

I also reccomend a hifonics but running low ohms does decrease the quality/clarity of the sound. Just something to think about.

(I run titan series for my little system in the camaro. Hifonics FTW)

for better sound quality use matching subs and amp as your head unit.if it were mine i would not use kenwood i would use alpine my 2cents.

 

What are crunch amps like ? I found a crunch 900.4 2 channel amp.

 

Theyre decent amps for the money.Would be a good entry level amp.
