Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

Anyone running a sub in their F-Body with a relocated battery to the trunk? I don't have much space left but do want to run a woofer. Let me know what you got.

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

I don't think theres much room in the trunk for a battery, amp, and sub. You'd prolly have to go with an 8" or a 10", with a sealed enclosure definitely.

for an 8" you're looking at about .25 cubic feet, or about 6x6x12
for a 10" it should be a little under 1 cubic foot
and a 12", if you can fit it would be a little over 1 cubit foot.

Those are all estimates of course, you'd need to know the drivers specs to calculate the box. I'm sure some type of shallow mount sub would fit great also, just for the fact that they usually require smaller box dimensions.

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

I put my second battery in the space under the driver side storage compartment. It doesn't fit through the opening, so the plastics were removed and a bracket built, battery installed and plastics reinstalled.

There was plenty of room for a 12" woofer and amp install in the well.

Al that looks good man, really good. I wanted to do that but unfortuntely have an amp mounted where your battery is and an amp where the spare used to be. My battery is in the well and it will be tight for a 10" requireing little airspace.

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

That's a good idea. I could move the amp that's behind there and build some sort of rack/cover plate for the amps in the well. I'm trying to keep my amps hidden if I can.

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

Mine actually is hidden. The picture abouve doesn't have the cover over the sub & amp. with the cover on, everything looks flush to the cargo deck, just like the stock hinged cover would look.

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

That cover was fabricated from expanded metal welded to a 1/2 square stock frame and covered with acoustic carpet (sub-box type carpet).

Pick up a BMR battery trunk mount bracket. You should be able to fit the battery and amp in the same area where the spare tire should be.

Then you could put the sub in the bottom of the trunk area.

Then again.....AL's install is VERY NICE

Re: Relocated Battery and Subwoofer

I havent noticed it getting hot. I'm going to build a small metal bracket/shelf to lift the amp off the sub box to allow for air to flow underneath the amp in the future, but for now, it hasnt been a problem.
