delco only one speaker works FIXEd
I decided to put in the original Delco into my car, but after rewiring the harness I only get sound from one speaker in the front. Nothing from the others, not even hissing. I know that speakers are good because the other stereo I had there worked fine. I rechecked the wires everything is in order. The harness is matched on all wires ( I had an original harness so thats definitelly not an issue). Any ideas? I was told it could be that the amp inside the stereo is fried. Does that make sense? There is output to one channnel. Thanks !

Re: delco only one speaker works help
attached is a photo of the front of the delco unit i have out of my car
to the left of each **** you will see R = Right, L = Left, F = Front, and R = Rear, if your little pointing ***** are not centered between each one your only going to get sound out of either the front or rear or left or right
if you open the radio behind each **** you will see a coil(if i remember correctly) whatever it looks like that is the area you need to clean right behind the ***** themselves,
i still haven't cleaned mine which is why it is still out of my car and replaced with a nice Jensen unit
and i suppose you can replace just the potentiometers, but if its only to keep the stock styling then you can get a Delco radio from any 80's GM vehicle almost and it will be the same or similar to the stock delco in your F-body
guys sell them on here pretty cheap as well, and most test them to make sure they work properly to each speaker before selling

Re: delco only one speaker works help
Ok, I actually got it fixed!!!I replaced the potentiometers or rheostats, together with the amp (they come as one init). Its a relatively simple fix, for it you'll need any other Delco unit with similar button setup. I had a unit from 1995, and even though it had a different face the button layout was similar. So I pulled apart my Delco unit, swapped the part (look at pics below) of course did some wire splicing, etc. because the boards on two units where a little different. Took me about 1 hour. The catch is to have a working Delco unit that you are willing to sacrifice.
The next step is to put in an AUX jack. However this 1992 radio is unlike other delco units. I have seen numerous posts on how to do it if you have a 5 wire harness going from casette deck , however this unit has a 6 and a 9 wire harness (last pic). Weird, because I have a 1989 unit that has a 5 wire harness and a 1995 unit that also has a 5 wire harness. So now I just gotts figure out which wires are carying the signal and tap into them ;-)
