MY 91 camaro audio wise!
MY 91 camaro audio wise!
I love my camaro, my whole family is into them. I have a 91, my dad has a gorgeous 86 (with a nasssttty 383 stroker) and my brother has the 25th anniversary.
I've recently acquired the taste for body shaking, hair moving, destructive bass, haha.
I've had my car for going on four years now, everything is build, not bought. It's been my "learner". I've learned body work, paint, fiberglass, etc.
Me and my dad recently started the speaker box, and i needed 4 cubic ft per 15" speaker and there was no way i was getting that with just an MDF box, so we did fiberglass.
My dad has been a boat builder for 26 years, so no doubt he knows what he's doing with fiberglass.
Keep in mind this is our absolute FIRST enclosure build.
If anyone has any questions (like i saw a thread on here from another guy wanting to do just what i did) it's easiest just to email me at fatboys91z28@yahoo.com.

VERY nicely done! you obviously have a taste for style!
My brother is running 2 15's in his transam, but its not pretty. The kicks are something Ive wanted to do for a while, but ive never fabbed out of fiberglass, so im hesitant. Cant wait to see everything painted and ready to go! Im following this build.

Thanks man!
And the kicks are mega easy, there are MANY tutorials online. The only thing is, they are time consuming.
I don't work tomorrow, so ill get some shots of the kicks now. They look MUCH better, almost done bondo'ing and nearly ready for paint.

I don't know if you've tested this yet but did you have to cut onto the car at all to fit the speakers? or does the baffle pull them out enough? have you tested the difference in foot space?
Ive got a pair of alpine 6.5 comps and i really dont want them in the back, and they're too deep to fit in the dash...kicks would be optimal, with tweeters in the A-pillars.

I don't care for the blue color of the box, but aside from that, nice work. I'm especially fond of the kick panels, though I'm bothered by how much most of them I've seen stick out and interfere with your leg room.

And like i mentioned in the first paragraph, you can snug the speaker up nearly as far as you could possibly want.

Yeah behind your kick there is a small, rectangle void. The motor of the componants actually sit inside there. If you wanted MORE leg room, you could cut away at the metal and the speaker would sit even further in the void.
The blue vinyl is coming off today, it's starting to raise in certain areas.

Thanks! But if anything, the ports are a little bit too small (short).
It's tuned right about 36hz.
It's exactly as high as the wheel well (i think it'd look cheap and unfinished if it were lower), and both seats lean back comfortably. And yeah no doubt too much blue, but i'd never be able to match the carpet color. I might just go black vinyl to match my seats, dash, and most of my plastics.

It's too much blue. Personally I'd cover it in carpet that matches the floors. That would provide the best look in my opinion. I'd also shape the box to be slightly less square and not quite as tall. That one looks like it wouldn't allow the seat to go quite all that way back. Though you'd know that better than I.

Re: MY 91 camaro audio wise!
I've seen some speaker boxes designed for that area that are shorter and do look good, but they have to be even with the back seat arm rests. Either that or being even with the "deck" area. That's probably too shallow for what you want to do. Black vinyl will look better than the blue, but I think carpet would look better even if it were black or something. Though you may disagree. Its your car so don't pay me too much attention.
No problem man, i'm open to any kind of suggestions!
And i needed ~4 cubes per sub, so i had a set height (the wheel well) and a set depth (the door) and it worked out perfectly. Right at four cubes air space per woofer.

Thanks man! I'll get some cruddy phone pics up today of them. Still need a little touching up so the paint is flawless but they are nearly done.
Today i'm doing another amp rack (sort of) i'm flush mounting my amps in the hatch area. You'll see

Re: MY 91 camaro audio wise!
Don't suppose you would like to explain the process to go along with the pictures for the ones (like me) that want to fiberglass but don't know how?
Re: MY 91 camaro audio wise!
Sure, man. I'll have to do it later tonight or tomorrow maybe, but sure i'll do a tutorial. I've got pics but they aren't the best for a tutorial i'll just make sure to explain it right.
Re: MY 91 camaro audio wise!
Wait till i finish what i'm working on now, covering the rear hatch area with a flush mounted amp "rack". I've got the plexi for my amp cover, and blue LED's inside the amp to make the engravings pop.
Haha ya reckon?

It's all torn apart, to be re-done for scrapin' the coast.
Kickpanels are almost done, just need to be painted.
Any idea on what to cover the box with, now? Thinking maybe black vinyl, MAYBE.
