alright so ive been looking to buy a sub box for awhile. i found a guy selling one that has two 800 watt 10'' kickers in a custom box. hes selling it for $80. he told me he would hook it up and show me it worked well. i have a couple of questions however. i have a 1988 firebird and he said it was custom built for a 91 camaro. the box should still fit regardless right? and take a look at the pictures and let me know if you all think it looks worth the price. im new to car audio and i just want to hear the opinions of some of you who know more. thanks

 

Although it may well fit in a 3rd gen rear hatch, it's by no means "custom made" to fit. That's a standard off the shelf truck sub box from Best Buy.

Look at the bottom - it's notched out - 3rd gen trunk has a hole in the middle bottom, not a rise. There's no cutaway on the rear eadge for the trunk mechanism (whether motorized or not)

Go to ebay, in the elcectronics audio car audio section, and search "camaro" - you'll see what a sub box looks like for a 3rd gen there.

I wouldn't pay $80 for that unless the subs came with it - that's a simple $49 basic box that any chain audio store carries.

A box made for a 3rd gen is going to have a bottom shaped like (click below):

 

The kickers do come with the box but I really want the box to fit properly in the hatch. I might go scope it out and take a look. That's why I posted pics on here because it just didn't look like a typical sub box made for the hatch. Thanks for the info though

 

Looks to me like it might sit across the back seat...definitely way to wide to fit in the hatch area though

 

Yeah it's definatly too long I didn't see how it would it fit. I'm going to call him and try talking to him again and let him explain to me how it's supposed to fit in the hatch Lol I want to see what kind of story he comes up with
