budget friendly Bass w/ T-Tops

hey guys just figured i'd let you in on my secret

i have a 91 rs 305 T-top and i wanted a little bass with my audio since my mid range and his sounded great being powered by a $100 sony explode head unit (not my fav choice but came with the car)

i bought a 10" jack hammer sub as well as a 300 max power jvc 2 channel amp

at the time i paid $120 on crutchfield.com for the combo, free shipping,

the sub calls for 1 sq ft enclosed (sealed) box which you can build and fit in your small trunk of the T-top hatch that will still allow you to remove your tops and secure them in place.

and this set up provided me with way more bass than i ever expected, rattles mirrors and sends a good vibration through out the car.

most people think i have 2 12's in there but are surprised when i pop the hatch.

this set up can be done with any 10'' sub of your selection if jackhammer isnt your taste just be sure you match the rms watts from sub to amp.

my amp gain is set 3/4 the way up and my bass on my head unit is set to -7
sub output is set to +6

and the system sounds immaculate.

the box sits at an angle in my trunk area i've had this set up for 6 months now with no problems and this is ran on a 10G power wire and 10G ground wire that is 11" long. ill upload pic upon request. if you have any questions just shoot me a reply.

Excellent. I tend to agree you can get all you want from a single sub. The difference between 1 and 2 subs is only 3db, which is hardly noticeable. I run a single 12" in a small box in the bottom of the well area.

i think it has a lot to do with the shape of the F body but yeah all you need is one and you save money by doing so.

I too have had good luck with running a single sub in these cars. with a well designed box (at a lot of patients), you can fit a single 12" in the bottom half of the well and still have plenty of room to install the t-top bag. with the bag in place, my sub was almost completely hidden for sight

I too have a single sub, and it hits fine for me. I didn't even do a box, just a shelf across the back, with amp mounted on underside of shelf. I cheated and used 2 12" speaker covers to have a symetrical look. And I get the advantage or having hidden storage for a small tool bag, jumper cables, power inverter, and the wife's purse at the car show. I'm running some old 1000w no-name 2 channel amp and a 10" Kenwood sub that I picked up several years ago at a yard sale for $50.
