Speakers
Alright so last year my dad and i put a new head unit, subs, and an amp into my 1985 Z. At first it sounded really good. Now it seems like the factory speakers are getting tired and arent audible over the subs. So its about time to replace them. First i wanted to know how many speakers there actually are in our cars? I think i remember there being 6 but im not quite sure. Is it smart to put tweeters in the front so the dash doesnt rattle? Also ive noticed alot of rattling from both of the doors when i have my subs turned up. What can i do to fix this? There is also a slight rattle from the hatch area as well. Its pretty quiet from the outside though. Will i NEED to get an amp for the speakers? And how easy of a task is it to change out all of the speakers? Sorry for so many questions!
Thanks!

Thanks!

Re: Speakers
4 speakers, 2 6x9s in the rear sail panels and tiny speakers in the dash (dont remember the stock size) Pretty much the only thing you can fit in the dash without cutting vent tubes is a 3.5" round or maybe a 4x6 plate. If you want great sound, look into modding the door panels for 5 1/4" or maybe 6.5" speakers. The rattles will take some effort of hunting down exactly whats rattling and then usually putting some sort of padding or sound deadener there. The dash speakers require pulling off the top dash panel (not difficult at all, just the screws around the defroster vents and the screws under the front side. You can run the interior speakers without an amp. If you do decide to run an amp, make sure you match the speakers and amp wattage (RMS is more important than max wattage) so you dont blow them up.
If youre going throught the effort of replacing the entire stereo system (which you already have minus the stock speakers), might as well run some new speaker wire too. The stock wire is pretty thin gauge and at this point is 26 years old. New wire will just help with the sound quality.

Re: Speakers
I have some components in my doors and love them I put the tweeters where the power door lock switch would go ( I don't have power locks ) and the sound is amazing I can crank it all the way up and have zero distortion.
