Dreaming of a Rockford Low end. Your thoughts

Im at a standstill on the LSx swap that I am going through at the moment. I have started thinking of what system I could put in the Camaro.

I am looking at some Focal 6.5 coax's for the doors and possibly even the B pillar. Powered by one of Alpine's 4 channel amps.

Got a couple ideas together for the low end portion of the stereo...

Both are Rockford Fosgate based and whatever I go with will be RF. So no changing my mind with that. Both Box ideas will be made so that either one of them DO NOT raise above the well, so I am limited to the approximate 2.1 CU FT of space that is in the well.

Here are the ideas.
1) 1 RF P3D4-12 in a ported box powered by P1000-bd. At 2 Ohms this would be 500 watts RMS.

2) 2 RF P3D2-12 in a sealed box powered by the P1000-bd. at 1 Ohm this would be 1000 watts RMS

Both subs are 600 watt RMS and 1200 Peak. I normally listen to Rock/metal with the occasional Rap/Hip Hop.

Thoughts...

given that the subs both need "1.02" cu ft by manufacturer specs if you want to go for exact spec youre SOL once you figure in materials, but if spec isnt a big concern and you know how to use poly fill then youll be fine. Keep in mind since youve only got 2.1 ft, and those subs require 1 a piece....that leaves you with a sealed enclosure.

as far as your speakers go.... why focal? Granted i deal with focal every single day but when it comes to heavy bass.....focals sound the same as type r's or infinitys.... However some people put more weight into the name. Also do you have 6.5's cut already? How do you plan to mount the tweeter? building a plate for the 4X6 location or some sweet frog eye pods for the dash? theres a million options.... just gotta pick your route

I know that they require 1.02 CU FT for a Sealed enclosure and that it is 1.79 CU FT for a ported enclosure. Either way there "should" be enough space in the well for either set up. Keep in mind that I would only use 1 driver if I were to go ported. Using Rockford's App. They seem to recommend a sealed enclosure. So maybe that is the way I should go. However I am looking for other opinions or experience.

About the Focals, I have listened to the type R's and the Infinity Reference along with the Focal 165 CA1 6.5 coax. Of those 3, I thought that the Focal were the best sounding with the Alpine's, a close 2nd.

I have a 4th gen dash in car so no stock location for the 4x6's. I will have the front 6.5's in the doors. And will modify the 6x9 location to accept the 6.5s there.

Looks like you've got it all figured out. Hold up if you're in ft Carson and you listened to those 3 speakers I'm willing to bet you went to cartoys right? I know each of those products including the Rockford line by heart

Yes. I listened to those at car toys. Just to get an idea of what I wanted. Would never buy at those stores unless prices are similar to online prices which are not likely

Re: Dreaming of a Rockford Low end. Your thoughts

ur not going to get 2.1 cu ft in that well.... i got a single 12 in mine and i got prolly 1 cu ft.... the box was assembled inside the well to net as much cubes as possible.... no way ur goina do a ported enclosture with out going above the top of the well....

My suggestion would be to just build ur box.... and put the subwoofer u want in there.... id go with the 500 watt rms sub... thats what im pushing out of a megaloud 1000.2 amp to a 800 wrms 12 inch

Well with your musical choices I would probably stick to a sealed setup typically they have better transient response. Meaning if you listen to a lot of stuff where a drummer is doing double bass or using triggers it will sound the way it should. Normally sealed is much more forgiving to error as well and coming out of the well in one of these cars probably a better solution so your not loading the port mouth within a few inches messing with the tuning
