More than likely your radio has the original cd player in it. Which was the first generation of them. They did last long. I do have a couple of second generation cd players here that will fit right in. $60 installed. You pay for the shipping both ways. I can put an aux connector in as well $40. LMK

 

That looks to be a 4thgen cd player. Very cheap to replace and plentiful.

 

I see it came with a Cassette player originally. So pic above is a fourth generation ?

 

100% sure it is NOT an 89 CD Player. Here is a Factory 89 CD Player.

 

Thanks for that pic ^ An 89 dealer brochure that came with the car and printed in 7/88 doesn't list that CD.... so it must have come out during the model year.

 

From all the info I have gathered off the people on the site most CD equipped card were late month cars.
