Delco Stereo, Help!
I purchased a 1987 Camaro just recently (I love IROC-Z's). The previous owner installed an aftermarket stereo, which I am quite dissapointed about and purchased a Delco Stereo off of ebay with the equalizer. I pulled out the aftermarket stereo to get an idea of how much work it would be to replace the stereos and what do you know they cut and spliced the old connector so I will need to install the original connectors back in... I'm not too concerned about doing this as they actually gave me the manual for the aftermarket stereo so I know what plugs into where for the connector that is currently in the car.
There are also two small speakers in the trunk of my car, they look to be original with the car as they have Delco/Bose written on them, I'm going to try to put pictures below. When they installed the aftermarket stereo they did not wire up these two speakers and I would like to try to get these speakers wired up when I install the Delco radio back into the car.
First question; Has anyone seen these trunk speakers before and if so do you know if this is original with the car?
Second question; When I purchased the Delco stereo, the seller contacted me and asked me if I would need the unit that has a single connector or the 'conventional GM unit that has three connectors'. I went with the conventional GM unit with three connectors, is this correct?
Third Question; does anyone have the pinout for the connectors that plug into the Delco stereo unit?
I appreciate all of your help!
Thanks,
Spgrooms

You should search the audio forums a bit. That radio you have is from later than your year. The Bose option was available as an option in 87 but the radio had different connections in the rear as the Bose required more than just a standard + / - connection. It may take some legwork but thanks to the Internet, you'll eventually locate all need parts.

Thanks for your input, I didn't realize the Bose system required a different stereo but that makes sense... Do you know what it looks like and would you happen to have a pinout diagram for it?

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
You'll have to do some searching. I have an 87 as well, but no Bose experience.

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
Does anyone have this delco/bose stereo? Preferably in working order. What's the running price on one of these?
Thanks,
Shawn G.

This might help, or not, depending on what you need.......

I have the 87 Bose system in my car. Each speaker is individually amplified and not in the typical locations. You should have the two in the rear (you do) and you should have the front speakers in the kick panels. The non Bose systems installed speakers in the dash and b pillars.

Also, dumb question, when you say kick panels, do you mean the door panels?

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
Here is some pics of the kick panel speakers for the bose system. The wire diagram pics posted look like regular radio wiring and not bose. The bose wiring is different because it has shielded wires for the amps and there is also a relay to turn the amps on. I also posted a pic of the diagram. The connectors for you Camaro will be the up to 89 in the pics already posted. Since your radio wiring is already hacked, it might be best to stick with a regular radio since the bose system is a little more complicated to make work. The relay is probably still in the car and if the wires aren't hacked that bad, it might not be a big deal to get working again if you have the right componets.

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
Thanks guys, where is the relay located for the amplifiers? So there are only four speakers in my car? It sounds like there are some in the rear quarters and I know that the kid I bought it from said there are, I'm assuming I should look and see what he installed, if anything.
I'm not in a rush to get this done, just doing research before I buy and would like to keep an original look, I'm not big on 'amazing' sound quality, if I can listen to the radio I will be happy.

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
I think the relay for the amps is located on the pass. side behind the dash next to the radio. In that area. In your pics on your first post, I see that you still have the speaker panel in the hatch. The wiring is still hooked up so it looks like you wont have to do anything there. Your main area of concern would be the kick panel speakers. The harnesses are probably still there so just get the speaker boxes(make sure the speakers and amps are inside them)and plug them in. The main problem would be your radio connectors. These are specific and could pose a problem finding them. Standard radio wire connectors wont work. Might be best to search the salvage yards and you might get lucky. I might have the connectors. I bought a whole set up on ebay a long time ago(minus the radio) for parts for my bose system. I'll have to look at the harness and see if I have the radio connectors.

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
I looked for those connectors and I don't have them on the harness that I have. I guess the previous owner that had the set-up chopped them off for an aftermarket radio install. Just keep looking and you will eventually find them.

Re: Delco Stereo, Help!
Each BOSE speaker has its own amp built in IIRC. They wont work with a non Bose unit.
Get a BOSE unit to replace the brand X unit.
www.crutchfield.com will have the plug-ins you need
