Memory wire

I posted this subject back in the day before thirdgen shut down for a while and didn't really get too much response. So I guess I'll ask it again. I hooked up my Pioneer stereo myself (first time doing it myself) a while ago. But I still haven't figured out where the memory wire goes. The kit came with two different plastic things (I can't think of what they're called for anything) that connect the different wires. One of them is big and connects the stereo with the 3 different plastic things that come out of the car. Then there's the other one that only has two wires coming out of it. First off, where does it connect with the stereo because I don't see a place at all where the two wires should go. Second, the other end of it, which should be attached in the car somewhere, isn't. One of those two wires is my memory wire. Some people have told me that I could just run a wire to my battery for the constant juice that I would need. But a guy came running into school a couple of days ago talking about his car catching on fire because he did that. So, I don't think I'm going to go with that approach anymore. Anyone have any suggestions?

If you can find that mem wire, just hook it up to the cig lighter wire. I believe that was orange? Its been a while

m not sure how your friends car caught on fire, but the memory wire IS supposed to go to a constant 12V source. (Battery) This is so that things like your station presets, and your clock keep going, when you shut the car off. Believe me, ive had four different stereos in my bird in the last two months (temps until i get my new kenwood), and my car hasnt blown up yet : )

I'm not too sure exactly what you're asking, but I think that by the "plastic things" you're referring to the wiring harness that mates your aftermarket radio to your factory wiring. The 3 big ones are where most of your connections are through including all of the speaker wires. The other connector with the orange and black wire (this is out of my head now so you better test it to make sure) should be your constant (memory) power and a ground. I'm not sure that I actually just said anything that hasn't already been said though. Oh well. Hopefully I was some sort of help

alright.. by the plastic connector thinggies on the radios harness im sure you mean quick connects, pioneer uses those bullet connectors.. you can cut them off and use a normal butt connector.. anyway the memory wire on pioneers is yellow, that connects to your constant on.. it connects to the orange wire coming out of the 2 wire connector in the dash.. the brown one is for a dimmer if your model supports it (upper line pioneers do), the red wire on the back of the deck connects to the red wire of your factory harness.. thats switched on/off by the ignition.. hope it helps...

You can go directly to the battery if you can't seem to find a constant source without going to your ignition harness.BUT, be sure to put a fuse about 6 inches from the battery. Without a fuse, you risk the chance of a fire, like in your friend's car.And I'm sure you don't want your car toasted.
