I know this is requesting "old" news, but.....

..... can somebody please post the info again about the GM steering wheel radio control adapters available from Best Buy and other locations.....? Installation requirements, compatable radios, etc..... Please.....?

I'm mulling over changing out the radio in the Notchback to an aftermarket unit for everyday use; the factory GM stereo is taking a big "crap" on me, and I'd like something better (preferably CD) for the car in the future.

I'll still keep and use the factory setup for car shows and such as that, if that's an option. But I need some tunes, folks....

Thank you.

That looks like a neat product, but the one that I had mentioned earlier is a little more versital (sp?). Rather than being product specific, it works like a "learning" remote and will work with any deck that comes with an infared remote. You wire the single wire coming from the steering wheel into this thingamagig, and "teach" it the controls. Press the "play" button on the steering wheel for example, then push the "play" button on the new radio's included remote. The thingamagig learns it and will reproduce that signal next time you push the steering wheel button. You repeat the process for all steering wheel buttons, then put the transmitter of the thingamagig in a spot that points it at the new radio. I don't know any brand names or anything, but somebody at best buy should be able to help you out.

Frank, for what it's worth, Pioneer makes a 1 1/2 Din CD/Tuner deck that has good power and fits the GM hole perfectly. You don't even need to install the reatiner plate, it sits snug in there. It's called the DEH-45, at least mine is and maybe its up to DEH-47 now. But the cool thing is, you can get a little steering wheel remote that attaches to the "rim" of the wheel. From there, you can control all radio/CD functions. That way, you can just "drop in" the Pioneer deck, attach the Pioneer remote controller, and boogie down the road. Come car show day, remove the remote (wireless remember) and pop out the Pioneer deck and pop the GM Delco Crappo deck in its place.

HA! I found what I was looking for! There is a company called Pacific Accessory Corporation that makes the reomte control interface device that I was talking about above. Their phone number is 1-800-854-3133. They're in Santa Ana CA. Their device will work with any aftermarket deck that has a remote control.
