Does the shape....

Does the shape of a box matter as long as it has the right airspace? Will funky angles affect anything?
Thanks,
Douglas

Nope, you can make it any shape you want. Technically, angles are good. Helps prevent standing waves from forming, or so i was told.

Ohh, I wanna see! Any pics? My current box is shaped to the trunk well, so that was angled, but since I am redoing it all I figured I might as well ask if a square box was better then a weird shape
Thanks,
Douglas

My 'permanent prototype' looks something like this & holds 1-10". To me, it sounds great inside the car,,,just not alot of omph behind it outside though,,but I don't drive on the outside of my car and I'm not worried about impressing anyone but myself.

takes little space,, sounds good for just 1 sub & it's low key to thieves.

Nope, no pics of the box. It was made to fit into the well and only stick up 2" above the floor of the hatch area, so it had the angle. Plus, i had to make it angle around the hatchback pulldown motor as well. With dual 10W6s, it weighed a ton, so i got rid of it and put in a single 10". Made it a rectangular box and put it in the well. From a builders standpoint, a square box is much easier and quicker to build then an odd shaped one.

I can build a box, I already did once that was probably more complicated then the next one I am building... I really didn't find it that hard and it sounded great, and still sounds great w/ both my subs full of cracks....
Later,
Douglas
P.S. never run a woofer excursion test w/ the t-tops close to the subs!

Sounds like you'll be building essentially the same box I have. Mine has 1.1 cu.ft. of airspace, and it fits in the lower portion of the well. I has a single solobaric 12 in it (the new square one).

I did a box in a 91 once that was a good bit taller. It was for a single 12" Kicker Comp. That box was awesome! THe shaping around the latch is a P.I.T.A., but it is well worth it for the clean looks. We even had to unbolt the pulldown motor to get the box in and out of the car!

using primarily GMPP parts.
Block is in shop!

Starting to look like the Kicker poster child!

Hope, totally different box then in the well. It'll go in back, though. I already have a well one that I like, but I want to reclaim some storage space.

This is the type of approach that you need to have room for the latch mechanism. I'm building a box now that is very similar to this one, except that the indentation in the middle extends all the way down and that's where I put the sub. A couple guys here suggested having the subs facing toward the back down in the well, so I'm giving it a try.
