How does this thing work?

OK,When i got my car the ppl took out the cd player.I have a 85 firebird, anyways i just bought a cd player off ebay and i bought a "car stereo connector"(that is exactly what it says on the package) for it.I havent gotten the cd player yet but i still dont understand how this little plug works.Do i hook the wires to the cd player or the car wires and where does it plug in at?
Someone please explain!
Thanks,Daniel.

The most common type is the connector plugs into the cars wiring harness (part that plugs into the back of the old deck) and you have to splice the wires from the connector to the wires comming out of the new deck.

Sounds like you got the plug for the newer series radio, and your car takes the older plug. I can't remember the cutoff point, but I think it was like 88 or 89 that they started the newer harness.

Return it and buy one from a car stereo shop. Those guys will set you up with the right one, and might even throw in the butt-connectors if you ask. Just a tip, since this is apparently your first time doing this: Take your time and make sure all of the wires in the harness are connected to the proper wires from the radio, and make sure that the connections are secure. Nothing sucks more than stuffing it all back into the dash, and not having it work right when you turn it on because a wire pulled out of the connector.
