A Little Unorthodox... but four 8" firing on the Glass?
I was talking to my cousin last weekend (I was considering buying some stereo equipment from him) and he suggested taking four 8" speakers (can they even be called subs at 8"?) and firing them on the glass in the hatch area. He said I would get enough bass and better sound. I didn't think much of it at first, but I've been rollling it around in my head over the past several days. At the very least it would be something different from the some old two subs in a box that everyone else does. Let me know what you guys think of this?

Oh 8's surely can be called subs! I know a guy that had 2 8" solo-barics in his car, and it was low and loud! 4 8's sounds interesting. I foyu do it, let us know how it turns out!

I'm not particularily a fan of the sound that 8" subs produce. They just don't seem to have the same presence as larger drivers. They are capable of reproducing lower frequencies, but not with the substanance and authority that you get from larger drivers.

I had a system once with 4 Soundstream SS10's firing up at the glass. It sounded awsome, but the box took up the whole cargo area. The 10 inch subs produce excellent tight bass, and they are capable of moving plenty of air.

If you're getting a deal on four 8's from him (you mentioned you were buying something from him) then go for it. Otherwise, the money would be more wisely spent on two 10s, which would be cheaper.
Or, get yourself a high-quality amp and one 12, and you'll probably be very happy with the results. For the $$ you'd spend on four 8s and a 4 channel amp, you'd be better off with a $300+ amp and a nice Kicker, Boston Pro, or Eclipse Aluminum 12. Just my opinion

Thanks for the opinions guys. No, I'm not getting a deal on 8"s from him, all I'm buying is a Pioneer CD player, a pair a tweeters, and an equalizer. The main thing about buying from my cousin is that he has experience and will help me with the install, that part is free. I would like to have a little space left in my hatch, but on the other hand I kinda wanna do something different. In the next few weeks hopefully I'll be able to get around to some shops, listen to some different speakers and get some more opinions. Thanks again for the info.
