Soon to be system
OK, i need your opinions as well as some help. I have a 1989 Camaro RS, and i am putting 2 rockford HX2's in the back, i already have the box built, i wouldnt really call it a "box" its the one where its just a peice of wood on top. Well anyway i have that cut out so now im jsut waiting for the subs. I am also planning to get a rockford bd1000a1 amp. How hard do you think these things are gonna hit? am i gonna have a lot of ratteling going on? is there any thing i can put in the crevises to stop the ratteling? Also something im conserned about is my power. Can i hook 2 batteries up to my alternator? will it make the alternator work harder and wear out? i just got a new alternator in like 3 weeks ago cause my old one was dead and i dont want to paying no $300 any time soon for a new one. i was planning on sticking another battery in the back maybe in that compartment next to the well ( if it fits ) then connecting it to my alternator. But remember that this is a class bd amp with 75% effeciency which means its gonna use a lot less power and give out a whole lot more. i need someone smart to tell me EVERYTHING i need to do, i want this system to kick ****! Also about the "box" is it ok that both subs share the same air space and its sealed?
i'm gonna tell you one thing that everyone is gonna tell you on here. the plate you have sucks. i know, because i started out with that myself. believe me when i tell you you'll notice a big difference. i also heard that you could damage your subs being almost free-aired like that, when it's not really sealed. as far as rattles, the worst rattle you'll get is from the licence plate, and possible taillights, and bumper, possibly some trim pieces too. more than likely though you're plate will definantly rattle, so just buy a licence plate type holder, and use some dynamat on the back of the plate, between the plate itself and the bracket. if your tail lights do rattle, first try to tighten them down from the wing nuts behind the trim. as far taking care of rattles though, the first task you need to do if find exactly where they're comming from, so you'll have to cross that bridge when you get there. i would suggest getting an actual sealed box though. you can get one from ebay for under $100 custom made to fit our wells. hope some of this helps
The box that you are talking about is not a sealed box it is called a free air box. That is the setup that I have in my Firebird. You are talking about just having a baffle board w/ cutouts to accomodate the speakers right? If that is the case you have to make sure that those speakers are free air speakers or not. If they are then you are cool w/ that install, if they are not then you have to construct a totally different box. An absolute sealed box, ported, vented, or bandpass box. If they are free air then it doesn't matter if they share the same air space. The rear of your car will rattle like a SOB. Try to dynomat that area or something. As far as another battery goes don't do it!!!!!! You will just kill your alternator. I think that answers all of your questions.
Scratch everything that I said about those Rockford speakers. B/c I just looked in my manual that came w/ my RF's and they are not Free Air speakers so you are going to need to make a real box for them. The enclosure volume that is required for the sealed box is 1.25 cubic feet and the vented is 2 cubic feet. See what ya can do and good luck

If you want to run your speakers in that plate, I'd reccomend getting Kicker Free-air's or something else designed to be run that way. I had a set os kicker free-airs running similar to this in another car, and it sounded good. One important thing is to make sure the front of the plate is pretty well sealed from the back. I did it in a car with a trunk, and it was really difficult, but it did sound good. I also wasn't pushing a bunch of power to the subs. Also keep in mind that the power handling drops in this configuration!
Now that I've been nice, I'll tell you what I really think:
BUILD A BOX!
These guys around here are right, it will be much better if you build a full box!

Definatly look into a box. The differance in sound is very great. There are many places that make custom boxes, Q-logic is probably the best looking, but is in excess of $250. If thats too much, look around. You can find a box for about $100. Definatly worth the diferance in sound...

If you put a battery in the back of the car make sure it is a gell cell because any thing else will produce hydrogen as it charges. BAD
