Cd wiring question..

So a while ago, like 3 weeks, my ignition wire to my harness just stops giving power.. I messed with it for a couple hours and got fed up so I just tied it to my battery wire.. Am I running the risk of draining my battery because of this?? I always turn the deck off when I leave the car, but does that still cut all the power? (I noticed the cd will still eject with it off)..

Thanks...

I hope you put a fuse on your decks power wire. All modern decks will draw power when off, for station memories, the clock, etc.

It already has a fuse on the wiring harness that plugs into the head unit... I don't think I need another one, I think the ignition wire is just used as some type of relay..

The fuse near the back of the radio will only protect the radio itself, which isn't enough. If the length of wire between the radio and the battery shorts out, it will melt or catch fire. Install another fuse as close to the battery as possible.

sniff around and find an ignition hot wire with a voltage meter to run it too. no matter what, you will forget to turn it off one time and there goues the batt. No, it really will not drain the battery if the unit is turned off.
