Whats wrong w/my CD Player?

I have a Sanyo thats about a year and a half old and I had it in my Firebird for about a year. When I put my bird away for winter I got a '72 Maverick that had no factory radio. So I wired it in with some speakers. It worked for a while, but now when I try to listen to CDs, it sounds scratchy and its hard to hear. Every so often the sound will all just cut out no matter whether Im usuing the CD or Radio. Is this something I could have wired wrong, or is the Cd Player just dying?

Double check all your wires. Did you just splice them in or buy a harness adaptor? Does the sound cut out only or does the decks display also go out?

Like I said, it had no factory radio, so I ran all the wiring and then crimped them in. And it is just the sound that cuts out.

what i would do is this: run all new wires again, but this time, dont waste time hiding them. run the battery wires and the ground and whatever else you need. see if the cd player works. if it does, one by one remove the "5 minute install" wires and replace them with the hidden wires. hopefully you will get to see what goes wrong, and thats the one u fix. but before you do all that work, check for loose connections and uncrimped wires.

good luck

Since the display remains constant, i would rule out a power/ground problem. If all your speakers go out at the same time, unless it is majorly wired wrong, i doubt all of them have the same bad connections. Its prolly the deck.

ive seen it happen a few times and its a real stupid thing that may be going wrong, try using a cd cleaner on the head unit, cause if youve had it a year and a half and used it often but never cleaned it, its probably dirty and will cause ur cd's to skip, not to mention messing up your cd's a little
