6x9's

I have two Cerwin-Vega 6x9's in the back of my 92RS in the side panel. They rattle alot and distort some running off just the head unit. Would I get better sound running them off of an amp(distortion wise)? And how can I fix the rattle?

an amp will definitly sound better,I ran my 6x9s off the deck for a year then installed an alpine 75wx2 amp, much better, nice "full sound" the speakers were already clipped out from the 40w head unit thats really like 9watts,but they still sounded good.running speakers with out an amp is like trying to run your car on 3 cylinders. as for the rattles? just play the bass tones that rattle it the most, hunt it down,if its plastic, glue("great stuff" from home depot works good) it together or jam a piece of fire proof foam in between the rattling panels panels. 0% tolerance for rattles in my car!!
