What is the best Amp
What is the best Amp
I'm sure you guys have seen the box built by Jim85Iroc (https://www.thirdgen.org/messgboard/Forum3/HTML/000176.html). I'm planning on building this box except i will not have 1 12" pointing back. I'll have 2 10"s pointing toward the center about 7" apart (thus they are firing dead at each other) I need your reccomendations on the best amp to power these 2 pioneer 10" i think the max rating is 400 watts each. Note -- i want to run both subs with 1 amp. And when reccomending amps, keep in mind i want something i can turn up the bass in the middle of the night and make the neighbor down the street wet the bed, or make it so people down the street know i'm coming.

If you want the best quality out there even though I love my Aura amps I would have to say that you can't beat Kicker, Rockford, Zaapco, or Alpine for their new amps this year. They all kick serious a$$. It's your choice & you've got a lot to choose from.

personally, i have a 600 watt Alpine V12 amp pushing 2 Cerwin Vega 10's and i am putting out 160 db at 45 htz. thats my system all i have to say is when u buy an amp money is not something that should play in what u buy. get what sounds the best not what u can afford at the time.....u might end up disappointed at the results if u use money to control what u buy. having to save for an extra month to get what u really want is better than settling for something just b/c u want bass now. but i agree w/harvey w/his amps, also a good amp company is USAMPS, but they are hard to find.
Hey will, 2 tens and 600 watts isn't going to get anywhere near 160 dbs.. Mike's got 4 12"s and a ton more power than that and is in the low 160's so i HIGHLY doubt you are hitting 160dbs.. I'm not calling you a liar, I'm just saying something isn't right with how you got that number...
I vote for either Rockford or Kicker, oh $hit I completely forgot about Memphis Audio, they rule too. Can't go wrong w/ either one of those. I recommend Memphis better b/c you are not paying for such a huge name like Rockford or Kicker.

Hey Velocity was that comment directed toward me? If you want to know where mine was placed it was placed at the furthest end of the dash, by where the defrost vents are at. Actually almost under the windsheild itself. I have my deck & amps set at all negative bass settings too, which is really weird so I know that if I set them all to the positive settings that I could possibly maybe acheive 170db. By the way the windows were all the way up when the car was db tested. Later

mike, he was talking to me. the mic was put on my dome light. and my subs are sitting right behind my rear seat facing the rear window. my car hit 160 at 45 htz, w/the windows up, and the amp all the way up, but one thing is that i do it the right way. i have a bass test CD and i put it on 45 htz which is my tuning htz. it was a one time test i never listen to it even near that loud. and u forget Alpine rates amps at 12 volts not 14.4. if u put out 100 watts at 12 volts u are putting out about 140-150 at 14.4, so my amp actually puts out around 850 watts.
and how much do their amps usually go for new

just thought i'd add my 2cents in,
i like rockford amps for a couple reasons;
1.they come with a power sheet that tells the owner exactly how much power that particular amp makes given a certain votage(usually 14.4, sometimes 13.8) and a certain impedence (2ohms usually).
2.each amp comes with a 3 year warrenty, no matter who buys it. meaning you dont have to buy it from a dealer. even after 3 years, if the amp fails, the dealers are usually pretty good about getting your amp repaired.(at least thats the way i see it here)
3.all rockford amps are rated very conservatively. an exmaple is my 50m. it is rated at 50 watts at 4 ohms. however, once driven at a 1 ohm load it puts out over 400 watts.
now the reason i think rockford has gone downhill; they are have decided in recent months to sell their products to retail stores like BEST BUY and such, instead of small privately owned shops. manily because large chain stores like Best Buy can seel hundreds of amps per day while the shops barely sell one per week.
thats the only thing i can see wrong with rockford. bottom line, they make some great amps. i think you will happy with any amp you choose. let me give you one peice of advice, dont buy an alpine amp. alpine is extremely good when the make decks, and navigation units, not amps. rockord, ppi and soundstream make fine amplifiers.

Yeah, Kicker sure does have a website!
www.kicker.com
Pretty nice site.
I pretty much agree with you there, Daniel. Their Power series is much better, too.
Everything you said positive about them also applies to Kicker amps, except I think they only give you a 1 year warranty unless installed by an authorized shop. I also like the fact that they are pretty strict about their products only being sold by authorized dealers, and no online, or superstore sale. This ensures that the shop will be more likely to sell you the right combination, rather than some kid at Best Buy selling you a 1000 watt amp for a pair of 4's (I hope not to offend anyone with that comment!)
I'm thinking a ZR600 would do you nicely, or maybe even a ZR360. A DX700 (which I have) would be awesome also, and it has lower power consumption, and runs cooler.
Good luck, you have a big decision ahead of you! It was easy for me, because I am very partial to Kicker from the beginning!

I am a Memphis fan myself. I would recommend either the 16-ST500D or the 16-ST1000D. I just picked up a 1000D over the summer, and it is phenomenal. Depending on how much power your 10's can handle will make the difference in which to get. My 2 Atomic 10's can each handle a max of 800W and I'm running mine around 700W out of the amp.
One great thing about class D amps is hey are very efficient. That means that they won't require an extra battery or anything like that. I have mine hooked to my battery along with my ignition and I also have performance pullies and never have a problem. If I am not driving, the lights dim, but not when I am driving.
I agree that Kicker and RF make great amps. Alpine does also, but they can be pricey, especially to make repairs to.

yeah GM430,
i wish rockford would have just stayed with the small stores instead of the superstores, that really made me re-evaulate their products. I have heard nothing but good things about kicker on this site. I think the only reason i have never bought a kicker amp is cuz i see their products at the local Good Guys audio, but i guess that makes me a hipocrat cuz i still respect rockford even tho they do the same thing. oh well!
good luck to whatever amp you purchase

I agree with Daniel. I respect both Rockford and Kicker, but they are too mainstream for me. I mean, you can go to alomost any audio shop (including Best Buy) and get some of these products. I would rather have something that noone else has. I like to be just a little different than the rest of the world I guess.
