New Rockford Amp Question

This is my first post, so forgive any mistakes. I am wanted to add new subs to my system and currently work at BestBuy. Since we can get Rockford at cost, I am looking to use thier 500aII to power two JL 12W3's. These would be in a custom sealed box in the rear well. I ave heard that the new Rockford amps are crap. My store obviously doesn't agree, but does anyone really know? Thanx

alot of people say alot of different things. someone told me the other day that jensen amps rock??? go fugure!

imo, rockford will forever stand for quality. they stand by their products with one of the best warranties in car audio. i have had RF products in my camaro since i was 16 yrs old. i have 2 amps that are 4 years old that havnet lost any sound quality. the only beef i have with RF is that they have now began to sell to large chain stores like BEST BUY (no offense). i liked it better when they sold only to authorized dealers. but thats the way business goes. read up on the amp, visit their webiste and im sure you will be very happy with your purchase, especially if u can get it at cost.

Since you work at best buy, go for the 800 instead of the 500.. it's only going to cost you about $30 more and is alot more powerful.. The employee price is like around $320.. Since you work there for now, you might as well go for the best amp they sell, that way if you want more powerful subs later on, you won't need a different amp.

i already have an old JBL amp wired with a 500watt amp kit. I would have to re-do it with the 800 right? also, will using the 800 blow most speakers?

Hey, I install at Best Buy in Cambridge Mass....hopefully becoming supervisor there within the next week or two.

Yeah, you might as well go ahead and get the 800 since our discount is so good. I don't think I've ever seen a Rockford amp come back with a problem. Plus, you might as well buy a service plan for it since they're so cheap for us.

The way those amp wiring kits are rated in "watts" is just really simple talk for our stupid customers. You probably have 8-gauge wire, which should be good enough if you're just running the one amp. But since that amp is going to be very power-hungry, it would be a nice thing to step up to 4-gauge. And the 4-gauge is almost a necessity if you're going to hook up more than one amplifier.

I have never heard of certain brands of amplifiers blowing speakers. Basically, the two ways you'll blow a speaker are A: with a weak amp, turned up so loud that it sounds distorted, or B: with a very, very, powerful amp. That 800 does have a lot of power, so yes, you could blow speakers if you get carried away...but that would be true of any amplifier.

Hey Daniel, you might laugh at me, but I've done a few installs with Jensen amps, and to be honest with you, they perform surprisingly well, especially considering their low price. And they have lots of useful features and are very easy to adjust and set up. My only complaint is that you can't run a Jensen 4-channel off one set of RCAs without using Y-adapters.

I think Fosgate amps are great. I used my brothers 225.2 for a few months and it rocked. His system in his 96 Camaro is pretty decent, lots of hard hittin' bass with clean high's and mid's, no distortion at all, just a slight rattle from the spoiler.
He has a 225.2 for the fronts, a 500aII for the rear, and a 1000a1 for the subs. All three amps are linked together with those brackets that make the amps look like one large amp.
I have no bass in my car since I gave him back the 225.2, my alpine 2 ch MVR-T500 won't push an 8ohm 12" Fosgate XLC (the 225.2 pushed that one sub fine).
I have 2 of the XLC's but don't have space for both.
