My brothers stereo wont work, idea's whats wrong?

Ok, basically his front driver side speaker kicks on and off (more off than on) and the car audio place told him the channel is gone/going on the amp, if the channel is gone i dont see why it would work perfectly fine when it kicks on, but that was the problem before, now i tried switching the 2 front speakers to make sure it wasnt the speaker and it isnt, when i reconnected the pass side speaker and turned it back on all i get is a loud pop out of the rear speakers and theres no sound, the amp is turning on and the fuses arent blown, anyone have any idea's whats going on with both problems? my guess with the speaker on the front driver is just a loose connection somewhere, hes got an alpine head with 0 watts so the amp is powering his 4 interior speakers..thanks in advance.

Use an ohm meter to test the resistance between the 2 wires, and then from each wire to ground. There should be infinite resistance from each wire to ground, and a 4 ohm resistance through the speaker. You may have a wire or terminal grounding out on the chassis.
