will an amp fix this?

i just got some new eclipse 4x6's and they sound great, but they dont want to take much volume before distorting a little. will a small amp fix this? they peak at 60 or 80 watts, cant remember...and my headunit is like 40...do you think i will get a better sound with them amped??

Yes, an amp will always make speakers sound better over the head unit's amp. Plus you can adjust the gains on the amp to elimiate distortion.

Remember that 4x6's are not gonna give you very loud output. If you are buying an amp...get a 4 channel and hook up the 6x9's too. just my thoughts

i also agree that you won't get alot of big sound out of 4X6's. you also have to remember that peak power for any speaker or head unit means nothing, you want to look at rms power or the power that the speaker will run on constantly

get somthing that will block out the bass. bass in that small of speaker can not be heard at all. if you get an amp get one with a high pass crossover. if you run a sub i would get one for your 6x9s also.
