Out with the back seat, in with a box....
I am not sure if this really needs to be in Car audio or interior. I am putting in two Vega124's next week. After consulting with a few of you on here, tank you all a lot, I have learned that at 2.5 cubic ft per sub is a bit cramped. My father is very creative and handy. He suggested to me that since i don't use my back seat that I should remove it. I still am going to put the subs in the back, but am thinking about building out a box/mounting, not for the subs, to replace the back area and center console. I do not really like the factory setup and am thinking about doing this. It would have compartments for the amps, locked up, and also little extra's. Has n e one here ever heard of this? I know this is a lot of work, but my father re-did a lot of his interior in oak and it looks fantastic...I appreciate any input.

hehe what would be really sweet, and you would have to get pics, is if you made a box that doubled as the bottom part of the back seat. thatd be sick...
elaborate on that for me. I am goniong to have a lof of extra space in the box/ change and am pretty sure i am going to replace the center console as well. My father thinks we should do it in oak as we could finish it, but i am kinda leaning toward carpet. Thus far I have planned for multi-sized cupolders, storage compartment with locks and have figured out how it structurally brace it to the frame(lets see them try and get that amp now...) all suggestions are wanted...eta next week

well i know its been posted, but i dont think anyone has done it. someone was going to do it for thier convertable with some L7 kickers, which i think would be smart because they are square so they would be alot easier to install, and comon square subs... that still gets me.but basically, you would rip out the bottom part of the back seats, and build a custom box that would fit where they go. you would have to put some cushioning on top of the box, and then you got a sub box, and a back seat. it would be damn cool but expensive. as weird as it sounds i think it would be easier if you did it in fiber glass and then renforced it. and just think how cool that would feel, if you made it a bench back seat, drop in some bass mekanik, and fool arround with your girl. be like vibrating beds in hourly rate motels.
unfortunately, the subs i am using requre just sort of 2.5ft^3 each. There would be no where near enough room. I'll get before and after pics as I go through the process. ps,I just firgured out how to repair the craks/breaks in our dashes.....looks brand new
Just to let you know the higher the quality of the wood the worse your system will sound, so oak would not be a good idea to make the box with. Construct the box out of MDF board, particle board or the ultimate one: FIBERGLASS box. Any one of those 3 would make for a great sound. Glad to hear I'm not the only one how has ripped out their seats for a system box. I wanna see pics when it's done & good luck w/ the install
