The formula for volume is: LxWxH/1728. L=length, W=width, H=height. Take these measurements in inches and divide by the magic number of 1728 and the answer will be your volume in cubic feet.

and to elaborate on that, the volume of a triangle is L*W*D*(0.5). Almost any box design can be broken down into a series of small triangles and rectangles and the small sections can all be added up for a total volume.

isnt 1728 one cubic foot in inches or something like that... and how much does the tub have? i want to know if i can do a ported box because i like it when the sub circulates the air in the car, but usually ported needs massive airspace.

To make it easy on yourself, measure the width and length of the bottom of the well. I think it's close to 30"x12". Then measure from the bottom of the well, to the lip on the rear interior panel. Something like 14". Multiply like this: 14x12x30. You get 5040. Now divide that by 1728. You get 2.9 cubic feet. You can make a bigger box by using angles and the other parts of the well, like the steps on either side, but start with that. Divide that by 2 and you have room for two speakers that both use no more than 1.5 cubic feet. Taking into account port and speaker displacement, you can use poly-fil. Using just a plain square box that you can just drop in, you can have enough room for two twelve inch subs. That's what everyone wants, twelves, right? Then take another piece of wood, cut holes in the design you want, either two holes for the subs or one big square, or whatever. Then cover with carpet to match yours and custom install easy as pie.

i made my box like this...cut out a top plate (looks like a regular old plate that some people have) then i built 2 separate boxes that i attached to it...which i run my 10's out of. it's a sealed box and they friggin bang...anyway you just need to measure out the well area and make a good diagram of it from all angles (top view, side view...) and then you can see what you have to work with. it's best to get everything planned out with all the measurements before you start to build. last time i checked, the MTX site had some good info on building boxes. i have also seen a few websites through here that people have posted dimensions on. a few things to remember....make sure you're measuring the inside dimensions of the box to get the proper volume...make very accurate measurements/cuts to be sure everything fits right and seals well....use tons and tons of glue when you put everything together. pre-drill all screw holes, MDF will crack in no time at all when you're putting a screw through it. also, seal all the corners inside with silicone when it's all the together and all the glue has dried. if you take your time and be careful, you will have a kick *** box

mine is made of fiberglass... i lined the whole cubby area with tin foil. then i started applying resin and "angelhair" and let it dry. after a few layers of this i popped it out and reinforced it from inside with particle board and about a gallon of resin went into it! then i atached 3/4" to the top (to mount the 12's).it was messy and time consuming but it was a seamless perfect fit no gaps, cost was about 50$ without carpet.then i filled it with water to check the volume. it came out to 2.25 cu.ft.
