VW / Audi Antennae
I want to install one of the antenna from a late model VW or Audi. Its a short 12"-16" whip that leans back at abut a 30 degree angle. I think it would look really good mounted on the rear edge of the roof, but do they work as well as a GM style full size antenna? Has anyone tried this? I will be using a Pioneer head unit.
Having the radio antenna on the front fender always bugged me, upset the lines of the car.

They don't work as well. If you don't like the look of the antenna, I'd suggest a power antenna.

I'm pretty sure those antennas are matched to the stock VW radio in some way. At least, when you install an aftermarket radio like your Pioneer, you're supposed to use a special amplified antenna adapter.
Like Jim said, just get a power antenna. Also, for $5 at Radio Shack, you can get an on-glasss antenna; it's basically a roll of clear tape with a thin antenna wire in it. It doesn't work perfect, but it's good enough to get you by.
Also, look at the dealer brochures for GM cars; you'll notice that the antennae are missing from most of them. You can simply carry a 10mm wrench with you, and remove the antenna at car shows or things like that.
