Help!!!....IS THIS A GOOD PRICE FOR AN EQ??

A guy at work is selling his eq for $65 bucks. It is still in the box and never been used, I have seen it. I don't have the spec sheet with me at the moment but I do know it is a Clarion, it has 7 adjustable frequencies, a 25X2 amp, and some other features. Sorry I don't know much about EQ's.

Is it worth it? Do you need more info?

It's not a bad price for what it is, but the ones with the built in amp have limited usefullness. They aren't ideal for use in an amplified system, and they don't have as much power as an aftermarket deck, so in general they're not real useful.

Can it be used to EQ my whole system though? I'm not really worried about using the amp feature. Will it affect it's performance? Thanks.

Does it have a pasive eq feature? Most amped ones don't you need to look at the specs. When I bought an eq booster I had some sort of clarion I paid $80 for brand new. If you have the cash i would look into getting a passive eq that uses external amps. they will cost a little more than an eq booster and alot more if you don't already have the amps but sound much better

I'm not very familiar with eq's you are going to have to tell me what to look for. Like I said as long as I can use it to adjust the eq on all my speakers without it affecting power levels from my amp I will be happy

If you you are using amps on your factory placment speakers then do not get the powered eq. If its like the one i had it only has wires and no pre amp inputs or outputs. Like jim said the eq you are looking at really are not that good all of them i have heard make even the best system sound like you are in a tin can.

I was about to say exactly what Jim said.

There are basically two types of graphic equalizers on the market, a "passive" type that requires the use of separate amplifiers, and the "booster" type that has its own amp built-in.

No matter which one you buy, you can't run EQ-treated sound back through the internal amplifiers in your car radio.

If it's a passive equalizer, you'll need to buy separate amplifiers for your speakers.

If it's an EQ/booster (which it is since you said it has a power rating), you'll be able to enjoy equalized sound without buying any extra parts, but the power output will be the same as your car radio at best, and maybe even a little less.

EQ/boosters were excellent products ten or fifteen years ago when many aftermarket car radios didn't have much power, but they're not of very much use today.
