you got yourself quite a headunit, which is a good place to start. Polk Audio is great, for the dash.. i recommend the Boston Acoustics 4"x6"s.

For subs, everyone will tell you to look at the JL, Kicker, SPL, and Audiobahn lines. It all depends if you want to shake houses, or just good sound. If your lookin for something ridiculous, just get two 12" JL's

Your damn right you'll need an amp, cuz without the amp, the Subs are worthless. The amps RCA cables will hook into the back of the Alpine Headunit you got. The Power Wire will go all the way back to the + terminal of your battery (can be tricky). And the Remote cable will run to the back of the Alpine Headunit also. hook some speaker wire from the amp to the sub's box, and your pretty much set-up. Dont forget about mounting cuz an unmounted amp can do some damage to you or your car if your in an accident. Found that out the hard way (shattered my windsheild and landed in the street 60ft away from my car)

Basically the amp draws power from the battery to power the subs.

this is just half of what you need to know. Other guys on this board like Justin86bird, and Jim85Iroc can really elaborate.

hope this is a start

if you want to save money like me go for some MTX subs the are cheap and still hit. same for an amp its all on how much you want to spend and how large the speakers are. you might want to put a amp on those 6x9's and maybe the 4x6's with some bass blockers on them. 4x6's blow easy if you go cheap so be careful. for the 6x9's and the 4x6's you might want to go with a 200 watt amp its good to push those. for the sub it matters again anything from 200 watts up to 1000 watts isnt out of the picture! hope more people help you out.
