Behind, need help
Behind, need help
Once upon a time I did competition systems. I've been out of it for so long that I need help with components. Speakers and placement are not a problem. The head unit and the amps are. Anybody that can offer quality advice would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that my car is orientated toward high speed road racing (stiff as hell), therefore skip is a problem. Any help will be returned in kind. Thanks.

Do you need suggestions for brands of HU's and amps? If so I belive Eclipse HU's are fairly skip-free. When it comes to amps my favorite is Memphis then PPI.

I've been in the same boat as you and just started getting back into the game about 1year ago. The best way is to read and search for info. I've learned alot from just reading posts around here (like Best Headunit Manufacturer! ). Alot of guys here like DJSexay, Jims85Iroc, GndPrx and some others are quite knowledgeable within the circuit so watch for their posts or replies. As far as the big boys in IASCA, USAC, and etc. I go to CarSound.com to find alot of the extreme answers and to see what they are running in their systems and etc. I don't think I answered your question but I hope I gave you enough info to help you find it.
hey hey hey, how come i wasnt in the list of knowledgeable people. J/K.
IF your worrying about skip, some sony had built in ESP, but they arent too high on the HU ladder.

what kinda set up are you lookin for, sound quality or all-out bass? i can give you my opinion from a sq standpoint. for headunits, nakimichi is one of the best. simple face, incredible features. if you know where to look, you can find some of them for around $200-400 online. for amps i tend to try not to follow the pack. but alpine, kicker, nakimichi, brax (if you've got lots of money), and Macintosh (same) are some of the better quality amps. i'm actually lookin into picking up some Ample Audio amps. us made, good numbers, heard nothin bad about them, and resonable prices. for a sub amp, you should look into a class-d, to save your electrical system some strain. for speakers, there are many brands that are wonderful, but the best bang for the buck i've used has been Crystal Mobilesound. their entire line of speakers had a huge price cut, and i got a set of 3-way components for under $200. they sound wonderful amped. i'm sure some of my choices arent all well known, but i've gotten tired of the typical cicuit city/ best buy selection. best recommendation i can give ya is to look around online for opinions, test reports, and prices. i've built a very nice system so far and have yet to hit the $1000 mark. but that'll come soon with the new amps and HU
