Hello, I am wondering if my alternator, and or battery will be affected. I just purchased a power acoustik 2200 watt amp, 500 x 2 @ 4 ohms
850 x 2 @ 2 ohms and
bridged mono max it is 2200 watts.
I was wondering if i was running 500 x 2 at 4 ohms with 2 12" mtx 8000 subs will my stock alternator and slightly better than stock battery hold up. My friend doesn't think it will but I think it should be ok. Help will be great. Thanx
Jason

yeah it all depends on the amps that the amplifier pulls if its more that the alternator can handle then you have a problem in my 83 i had a 75 amp alternator and two 1600 watt profle amps running 2 orion 12's well i knew i was having problems when a long bass hit would come and my headlighjt would shut off as i was driving, the amps were pullin over 60 amps each

sounded good though

Well in my 91, I had a Kenwood 300x1 amp bridged to a pair of 12" Rockfords...... It sounded bad *** , BUT it killed my alternator and battery........ Now my car is still weak?? If I was you, I would go ahead and beaf up that alternator. It wouldn't hurt anyway..............

I suspect your friend is correct the stock alternator is not going to last very long especially if its not new. as the previous post mentioned, what is total amps on the fuses on the power acoustik amp?
If you are considering buying a HO alternator make sure you get output specs at low rpm. Typically, the output advertised is at 1,000+ rpms which doesnt help much sitting at a stoplight in the middle of august with the lights on, A/C running, etc.
As a point of reference, I run a Kicker ZR600 amp (3 X 30 amp fuses) and a Kicker Impulse amp off a new 100 amp AC Delco alternator, new Sears DieHard Gold battery and a 1 Farad CAP. No problems after 7 months, ie, lights dimming, etc.
This setup fried the alternator that was on the car when I bought it (10/99), but I suspect this was the original alternator since the car (1991 Camaro) had only 27,000 miles plus the owner had put a cheap battery in the car.

I used to have this amp, it was 3x35Amp fuses IIRC... I don't think the amp really put out 500x2 at 4 ohms, or 850x2 at 2 ohms or whatever, but it is huge (24.5" long) and looks freakin awesome! It's a good amp though, I beat the hell out of mine for a couple years. You will probably want to add a capacitor, a stronger battery, and almost definitely a bigger alternator. At night with your headlights on, when you hit the hard bass, you will probably be putting a 100+ amp load on your charging system. Maybe look into a 140 amp alternator, or even a stock style 105 amp from a later 3rdgen..

I run a 160amp alternator from Power-Line. It is externally regulated and adjustable.
They rate the current flow hot, so it puts out closer to 200 amps cold.
Ran it since 1993 & no problems ever.
