racerJ -------------> Boston Pro Subs
racerJ-
I saw your post about the Boston Pro Series subs that I just bought. The ones that I got are 12" model 12.5LF. Those come in 2 and 4 ohm, I have the 2 ohm model. The specs for the 12's in 2 ohm trim are:
Recommended Power: 50-1200 watts
Mounting Depth (F): 5 5/8"
Box Volume (int): 1.0ft3
Cone Area (Sd): 510cm2
Voice Coil Dia: 51mm
Max Excursion: 40mm (Peak to Peak)
Ref. Efficiency: 0.46
Moving Mass: 121g
I think that these subs are great. It is almost impossible to over power them. They like power. I talked to boston techs before I bought them, and they told me to make sure that I don't run them in parallel off of my amp for too long or it will hurt it. I can't wait to get my box built, cause they will only sound better.
If you don't want 12's, they also make 10's MN: 10.5LF (2 & 4 ohm) and 8's MN: 8.5LF (2 & 4 ohm). Boston make about the best speakers in my opinion. They are extremely clear, and have very good sound and build quality. Let me know if you have any other questions. Their website is www.bostonacoustics.com You should be able to find out everything there. Later

LOL those aren't subs those are power distribution centers if they can take 1200 watts RMS. I'm really going to have to check into those subs if they handle power like that. I've always heard they had great mids and highs but I never heard anything about their subs till now. Thanks for replying to my post in your post. It was kinda cool getting a post with my name in the subject line too.

Well, I'm glad you are proud to see your name on a post! lol Up here in Columbus, Ohio, there is only one or two places to get them. I'm sure there is a place down there around Dallas that would carry them also. I think that Boston has a dealer finder on their website.
Yeah, they can handle some serious power. The guys at Columbus Car Audio said that when they were originally tested, the amp they were using blew before the subs were even working very hard!
I did have to wait a while to get mine. They were having trouble getting them in stock, but once they were here they gave me a pretty good discount. Good luck, and hopefully you can find a shop with them on display.

Thanks again for replying. I'm sure Earmark, a high performance stereo shop, sells them. I know someone does because we had a car come through BMW when I worked there back in 97 that was loaded down with the subs and the mids and highs in their packages in the trunk. I can't wait to hear them. I'll probably use three of them and put an Autotek super sport amp on each one to give them about 800-900 watts each

I almost bought an Autotek amp a year ago. The thing was huge, and put out way too much power for my two tens that I had at the time. The one that you are going to use puts out what kind of power? What kind of ohms will you be running them at?

I beleive the amp puts out 500 watts rms @ a 4 ohm load and 600 watts rms @ a 2 ohm load. I think the model number was SS500.2
I do know that it is an Autotek Super Sport series amp. I'm worried about the current draw though because it says it can draw a max or 39 amps and, if I use three of these amps as well as a smaller model, a SS300.2, for the mids and highs I could need to draw 236 amps at any given time if they all draw their max amps at the same time. I was thinking about adding on an Optima battery with a battery regulator as well as (2) 1.5 farrad caps to solve this possible delima. I may go with a bigger amp though like the SS800.2 to give them 800 watts rms @ 4 ohms or 900 watts rms @ 2 ohms. I just thought giving each sub its own amp would allow full power to each sub as well as custom tunning. Not to mention a sweet look when on display having four amps in the rack.
