Hello,
I just purchased a pair of Infinity Kappa 693.1l. I was wondering if you think they will sound alright being just powered by a Alpine 7864 cd deck, rated at 60x4. I was thinkin gof gettin glike a 75 watt x 2 amp for them if not.

I'm not familiar with Infinity speakers in general and don't know how they sound, how efficient and so on, but the 7864 is a nice deck, it should sound just fine. Plug them in and if you're not satisfied you can get an amp whenever you like.
Any one who has an amp for the 6x9's, where did you mount the amp?

I am VERY impressed with my 60x4 Alpine I just bought for my Grand Am. With stock, inefficient speakers, I am very impressed by the power and quality of the sound. I stepped up to the 60x4 for the same thing you wanna do...I don't wanna buy an amp for this car. This head unit is the only one out of the 4 that I have had (2 Alpines, an Eclipse, and a Clarion) that I can say I am truly impressed with the sound without an amp.
Hope your Kappas don't warp the way mine did.

I meant where do you mount the amp for the 4x6's
Same place just run the wires. I guess that would work

i have ppi 4x6's and infinity 6x9's both 2way speaks runnin of the head.
i would power the 4 bys first. mount the amp under the passanger seat. if that doesnt work, you could alwys put it in the hatch somewhere and run some long wires. thats not to good for soundq.
your next step if you want it to sound really good is to get qlogic kickpanel pods. and amplify a good set of 6.5 componants, like say, infinitys

Kappas are power hungry. They will not sound good being run just by the deck. I used to have 6x9 Kappas running off an Alpine V12 30x2 watt amp.

There can be only one!!
I agree with Justins86bird DO NOT RUN OFF THE DECK! When looking at an issue like this get the S/N number and see how much power it takes to run those things. On the Infinity Kappa 696.1i the S/N is 89 which means it's not a very efficent speaker. Requires more power. The Amp that's built into the Head Units aren't made for making that kind off power even if 25x4 watts. The head units heats up quite a bit by just powering the CD,Radio, and etc. Ever taken a CD out after jamming for about 15mins? It's HOT! Not to include all the heat from our heaters in our cars. To power these babies properly I would go with no less than a 50watt per channel amp. If you were using Pioneer or Kenwood speakers which have an S/N of around 92-93 I would say it's O.K but if you want to really hear what they're made to do power them up nicley. They are very good speakers just need the juice. As a rule of thumb I recommend no less than half of their recommended power.
