Yes... the speaker acts as it's in a bigger enclosure because there are obstacles (poly fill) between it and the sides....different shape / angled sides also help too...
Very nice work! Back in the early 1990's I bought a series of VHS videos made by the MECP (Mobile Electronics Certification Program). The video titled "Miracle door panels" really taught me a lot. I built my first set of fiberglass door panels, and never looked back. If I can't find a set of Great GTA panels for my'89 GTA by the time I need them, then I will build my own, complete with door speakers. It really helps that our doors are flat on the inside, and stock firebird panels will make a great template. I really am looking forward to that. IMO, "on-axis" (pointed towards each other ,on a horizontal plane) just sounds better than "off-axis" speakers, pointed at the windshield. Polyfill does help to create deeper, ritcher sound. I use it wherever I can. Fiberglass home insulation also works very well in non-vented applications.
