AC Delco CD Player rebuild?
I have a factory AC Delco CD player in my 92 RS that it came with. Does anybody know where I can get it, or send it, to be rebuilt? I'd kinda like to keep it. Thx.

There's a place in Syracuse that repairs radios at a flat rate. I'm not sure if their services are available to inividuals or only to dealers. Dealers usually charge around $100 when they send it out to that place. The only thing is, the thirdgen delco radios are pure crap, and the chances are very good that it will develop problems again in the future.

If you're dead set on keeping your factory radio, then your local radio shack will be happy to repair it for you even though it is not an optimus or whatever it is they sell. I know your probably scared to let radio shack work on it, but they really aren't that bad. One time in college when I was broke, (practically my whole college career, except every semester when they passed out the student loan checks) my Alpine went on the fritz. It was not covered under the warranty so I knew I had to cover the bill. I took it there and had them send it in to be fixed. They quoted me a price beforehand, just by me telling them the symptoms. I think it was $35, and in the end I only ended up paying $27. Compare this to the other places that were wanting around $75 just to diagnose the damn thing, plus I was to pay for shipping to and from the repair shop. Radio shack didn't charge me for the shipping to their repair house. Since I got it back I have had no complaints and it still works fine. This was five years ago also, so apparantly they knew what they were doing. The only thing I did not like about it was that it took about a month of not having a radio in my car, but for $30 I can't complain.

Keep and have your AC Delco fixed if you're worried about someone breaking into your car to steal stereo stuff, normally theives won't go for the stock stuff. Otherwise, get a real stereo.
