someone help with my stereo problems!

my stereo (stock) is actin up again. It will be soundin great but then all of a sudden there is horrible static coming from the left front speaker, then sometimes it's good again. It happenned before, but it was the right front speaker--it sorta fixed itself for a while, but now it's back on the other side and it's driving me nuts! The static isn't affected by the volume either. Is this caused by the head unit? Is it repairable or should I just replace it?

it could be that the speakers are going bad, you might want to check your connections...also if you start to think its speakers going bad, set your fade if it even has one, i dont know ive never kept a stock stereo, to all the front and ride around like that for a bit, and see if you front speakers start acting up, then do the same for the back, or, just try to replace the speakers you might think are bad with something that works, it doesnt have to be the best speaker, if you play that speaker for a while and it doesnt do it, then there is something wrong with the deck, if the new speaker does it too, check your wiring, connections, and it could possibly be the deck...

i've checked the speakers and they're in about perfect condition. I thought about wiring/connections but last time it was the right side and this time the right side is fine. also, i've tried the whole fade thing. the static is not affected by volume or fade oor balance. so it's the deck then?

... it'd be a lot cheaper to make sure it wasn't the wiring than to replace the deck ...

Belker, how can I check that? Do I have to replace the wiring or can it be checked in the car?

If it were me, I'd get some speaker wire (anything you can find will work for this test), disconnect the factory speaker wires from the speakers and from the HU, then connect the speakers to the head unit with the "new" wires. Make sure all the new connections are good ones. Don't run the new wires, and don't put the dash pad back on, and don't re-mount the HU - just leave the wires hanging there (this is just a test). Now take a little drive and see if the problem still exists. If it does, then the factory wires were obviously not the problem. If the problem went away, then either the factory wires or the factory connections were the culpreit.
