Need some alarm help

I removed an audiovox prestige plus for an upgrade to a new audiovox aps997z. Having an issue with lock unlock. The wiring colors were the same in both manuals the old one worked fine the new one does not. With a meter it seems to pulse but maybe not enough to energize. Im not into the stuff like I use to be. Does it need to programmed first? Using the red and green wires pin 20 and 22 on the new harness which are lock- and unlock - to the blue and black on the factory relays.

Re: Need some alarm help

The door lock system in your car requires a positive trigger to activate locking/unlocking. On many older alarm systems, the door lock outputs had provisions built into the brain unit that would allow either (+) or (-) door lock pulses (red wire was (+) lock, or also (-) unlock; vise versa for green wire) usable either way out of the box without programming. Most all units now, including your 997z, only have a (-) trigger output. Basically, without either two relays or a polarity reversing module, your new system cannot control the factory door locks as your previous system would.

The module needed would be a 451m, either by VOXX or Directed. These are universal modules, and VOXX recently bought out Directed so branding may vary.

Two relays would accomplish the same, any SPDT standard relay is fine. You would need to wire the relays as: LOCK (+)12 Constant/fused to poles 86 and 87, red from Prestige to 85, and 30 to light blue in car. Same for UNLOCK, just green on 85 and 30 to black. Since you are only activating the factory relays with the output of these, they are not a high current application. A 10 amp fuse and 18 gauge wire is more than enough, and you could even splice the (+) feed into the main Prestige harness between the fuse and the brain for accessibility and to piggyback their fuse protection. Kind of late, but hope this helps if you don't already have it sorted.
