BBE....JVC...Alpine....

I've been running JVC headunits for about 2 years now, and I totally love the sound I get from them. I credit most of this to their BBE sound processing. Problem is, they just dont seem to be durable. My first one shut off never to play music again. Warranteed it for another, somthing similar happened...or i think maybe it stopped playing cds or something, but it broke sopmehow. Now I have the kameleon because that was all that they had in stock when my last one blew up, and I was not about to wait around for a special order. well I notice lately that this one is acting strange so im starting to think that maybe I should devote myself to another brand. I see that Alpine has BBE also...and from what I read on the websites etc it seems that its the same thing. Does anyone know the deal??? And why would 2 different brands be using it???

never messed with Alpine, i can tell you about Pioneer, people say they always have problems with them, and they go bad, ive been running their decks for a long time now, and acually havnt had any problems with them...maybe im just lucky...

Kenwood...thats going to be my next deck, the 2 audio shops we have in my town, NONE has had a kenwood return in the past 2 1/2 years, as a matter of fact, the one stereo shop ONLY sells kenwood decks...he said he took one apart, and the time in engineering he said is killer, and these decks last, and he proved it to me with his return rate...they used to sell Pioneer decks, and JVC decks, and they was getting the JVC's returning like crazy, LED's going out, buttons stopped working, and he acually stopped selling those because he said it made his business look bad...

Pioneer, he said he got his fair share back, said like 60% of the decks are people who dont know how to use them, miswire them, or just flat out abuse them...

i dont know if this helps, but i work tech support, and im bored, so im sittin at thirdgen all day waitin for people to reply
heh

god i love my job

I read about BBE somewhere - I believe a different company invented it, and they license out the use of it, which is why more than one company uses the same technology. As far as JVC's quality goes, I had a JVC deck and 6-disc changer for over 5 years (until someone stold it all) and never had a single problem. I don't ever remember the changer skipping either no matter how rough the road was.

My brother bought a JVC head-unit last year, and he loves it. I like it as well - I'll be getting the same one as soon as I can afford it.

looks like your JVC that the audio shop gets back did the same thing that my pioneer did...

i wonder how all these people have problems with decks, and then i get 2 pioneers and dont have problems with either one...as a matter of fact, my brother has the other one and it still works great to this day...

To each is his own.
Change from JVC to another unit and you will deffinately notice a difference. Try ALPINE or CLARION. Went from JVC to Clarion in my girl friends car, HUGE difference.

My .02 cents worth..... I'm on my third Panasonic head unit. All of them still work! (I Keep on buying newer styles!! ) One has been in 3 different cars over the last 4 years, and still works great!! I might just be lucky, but I'm defenitely pleased.

If you're head-strung on BBE, then you'll be very happy with the alpine decks. They sound a lot better than the JVC decks. I used the BBE on my alpine for about a day and got sick of it. I like my music much more natural, but a lot of people do like BBE.

Anyway, BBE was in fact developed by an independant company and is licensed to a few different manufacturers. It was initially developed to help make the horrid TV speakers sound better, and somebody got the bright idea to use it in the car to help horrid stock speakers in quite the same way. It can work wonders on stock speakers, but if you've got some quality aftermarket speakers, the BBE can be too vibrant as well as kill your imaging. BBE does a lot of phase manipulation to achieve it's characteristic sound.

BBE, Barkus Berry Electronics I believe is what it is. I have it on my Alpine 855 which I have yet to install, and that's part of the reason I bought it. To put it in layman's terms, BBE is like having a Loudness button that works on the full range of sound, not just the low end. This is what I've been led to believe anyway. Take care all...

Indeed you are correct.

I have BBE on my Alpine 60x4 I just bought for my Grand Am. Indeed, it does sound like the loudness is on, only its fuller.

For best results, I've found running the BBE with the loudness off and the bass and treble flat produces nice sound. Go with the Alpine!!! I've had 2 Alpines, an Eclipse and a Clarion in the last 3 years in my various cars, and my new Alpine is by far my favorite.
